For example, you can have three teams willing to pony up three first rounders and one other only willing to give a single second rounder for his services. If Payton sees the last one as the only landing spot he'd consider, the Saints must decide to simply take the second rounder or refuse to release him altogether. They really have very little leverage at all. |

Re: Denver Will Be Payton’s Next Job
If past experience proves true then no more than two or three of the entire QB crop will become serviceable starting QB's in the NFL. With some luck they might have the career of a Andy Dalton. Then again, they could be another Matt Ryan. Or Ryan Leaf. Or Tom Brady.

Re: Denver Will Be Payton’s Next Job
This ^^^
Many people are making the assumption that QB would be a driving force in Payton's decision for his next coaching location. He shoots that down completely here and says that the most important factor is having a good working relationship with the front office. That is already in place in New Orleans. I've also heard some wonder why Payton would want to return to the Saints with them having no 1st rounder in 2023. Well, anywhere else he goes is likely not to have one either and will likely have to give up even more just to get his rights. I'm not saying I absolutely expect Payton to return, but it isn't quite the pipedream that some claim it to be either. |
