Re: Observations from the Saints' Loss to the Steelers

This is a case of PFF grading making little sense when it comes to Dalton.

Top 5 offense (minimum 16 snaps)

71.4 – RB Alvin Kamara (37 snaps)
70.1 – QB Andy Dalton (43 snaps)
69.0 – WR Chris Olave (36 snaps)
62.1 – RT Ryan Ramczyk (47 snaps)
61.2 – WR Jarvis Landry (37 snaps)
Honorable mention: WR Rashid Shaheed (75.3 grade on 6 snaps)

Top 5 defense (minimum 27 snaps)

90.1 – LB Kaden Elliss (81 snaps)
76.7 – S P.J. Williams (84 snaps)
69.6 – CB Chris Harris Jr. (55 snaps)
69.3 – DE Cameron Jordan (49 snaps)
68.9 – LB Zack Baun (28 snaps)
Honorable mention: S Tyrann mathieu (67.5 grade on 84 snaps)

Bottom 5 offense (minimum 16 snaps)

26.2 – LG Lewis Kidd (26 snaps)
40.1 – LT Landon Young (20 snaps)
41.0 – LG Calvin Throckmorton (21 snaps)
44.4 – WR Kevin White (31 snaps)
45.0 – TE Taysom Hill (19 snaps)
Dishonorable mention: C Josh Andrews (47.4 grade on 47 snaps)

Bottom 5 defense (minimum 27 snaps)

27.9 – DT Kentavius Street (45 snaps)
32.1 – CB Alontae Taylor (80 snaps)
40.3 – CB Paulson Adebo (84 snaps)
47.4 – DT David Onyemata (42 snaps)
48.6 – DT Malcolm Roach (44 snaps)
Dishonorable mention: DT Shy Tuttle (51.7 grade on 34 snaps)

No doubt the Saints didn’t play well enough to win. It’s interesting to think about little things that impact the game though. Say for example Werner was able to play and Watt wasn’t. Just a thought exercise.

Loss Post Mortem

The Uppers
- Good to have Harris' Vet presence basically all over the field. Ditto to Ellis.
- Landry was a welcome return.
- JJ is coming into his own as a strong TE option.
- Both Lutz and Gilliken seem to be back to form. (Yes. So bad, I have to reach for Special Team kicking!)

The Downers
- Why don't we just bench AK41. Carmichael won't use him so you may as well reduce his exposure to injury.
- Allowing AD to keep it on QB sneaks, because he's obviously such a physical stud, instead of Taysom. I'm smelling rocket field from the coaches.
- Chronic 3rd and longs, Red Zone efficiency of a HS Squad, Vanilla Offensive play calling... Wash, Rinse, Repeat.
- Penalties. Sure Taylor seemed like he was lost this game, but some of the BS calls were just beyond ridiculous. I don't see DA in any official's ear...miss SP Big Time.

A wise man once said, "Poo-poo smells just as bad as s#!%. One just SOUNDS cuter!"

72 penalties thus far and over 600 yards. 19 false starts (tied for the worst).

Wow, just wow.

The false starts are somewhat understandable given all the different offensive players being forced into duty. It doesn't make it any more acceptable, but it is understandable.

It will be a barn sale on coaches soon enough, i hope allen gets canned and on his way out don't let the door hit him where the good lord split him. To all of those that were pumped up to see Allen take over, I don't understand why???? Track record was horrible and now you slowly but surely get to endure the agony of the week to week misery he brings as a hc. Careful what u wish for ladies and gentlemen, not all is good at their job.

Every position is automatically upgraded if every starter iss healthy and playing. We have had 3rd stringers spread throughout the weekly starting lineup.

Disagree.

False starts this late in the season are all on coaching.

That's what practice, OTA's, training camp & the pre-season games are for.
