Simply put, it's a game/streaming device. The "shield" works with almost any TV that supports HDMI. I've had mine dating back to 2015.

There is a newer version out called the "Pro" w/4k that has been a hot seller on Amazon as of late. All you have to do is download a paid service (APK) to the device and stream away. I rarely have buffering issues.

Like I told The Dude this past summer, make sure your internet speed is good & use a VPN
