13.5M?

I hope they use some of that cash on a quality vet LB.

As Underhill & Mike have mentioned several times …. it’s very thin @ the position & Demarco is a complete unknown.

I don't believe so. As coach Rizzi said the Saints aren't planning on calling the fair catch anyway. I suspect Flowers didn't show enough at WR to make the squad and there are others that can handle other duties AND return kicks, including the two new WR's Bowden and Coutee. If you want to make the Saints squad you better have multiple skill sets.

Edit: As I thought. I just checked out Flowers' college stats. He only had 52 catches over his five year career at Montana. Add in his 16 rush attempts and he managed only five TD's. On the other hand he had 92 kickoff returns. He was a one trick pony. He was worth a look, but in the NFL you have to earn your spot.

Jadeveon Clowney, EDGE
Yannick Ngakoue, EDGE
Dalton Risner, G
Anthony Barr, LB
Jaylon Smith, LB
Kwon Alexander, LB

With that cap space we could probably bring in multiple vets. I’d grab Clowney and Kwon if possible.

I have read and heard that they are pretty high on both D'Marco Jackson and Anfernee Orji at LB. I have a feeling all the vets are going to want to wait until after training camp to commit anywhere. I don't blame them.

I'm good with any of those selections EXCEPT Jaylon Smith.

He's pretty bad. Slow & the burst is nonexistent. Honestly, he's not the same player after the injury.

Kwon? Knows the system & would be great depth but I don't see it happening.

Not a popular choice but I'd take a flyer on Rueben Foster .

Not until we need someone during the season do I think it's prudent to consider these guys.

Fixed it for you.

It's clear we have no intention of moving away from the 4-2 scheme since that's what they've been using throughout OTA's and minicamp. Any LB beyond Davis and Werner are expected to 1) be there as a backup for the two of them, 2) come in on a situational 4-3 alignment (very rare in the Dennis Allen scheme), and 3) to be very involved in special teams.

I just can't see us or those vets themselves wanting that scenario. I could be wrong, but it just doesn't make sense right now.

It could also be that one of the other eight LB's we have on the 90 man roster can fill that role with no further financial outlay. If we sign anyone else at LB right now it will mean cutting one, or more, of these.

Smash

Demario Davis is 34 years of age. A quality LB but after him, there is no proven depth (Ellis is gone). Pete Werner is an up-and-comer but he hasn't played (battled injuries in 2022) a full season yet. Then come to the playoffs (assuming we get there).

I remember there were 2 individuals (actually it was one homer here ) on this board who thought our WR depth was "fine" when Sean P was here .. Callaway, Lil J and Tre (good lord). OK ...

We could try to trade for Devin White. 🤷🏽*♂️
