Saints on 2023 Hard Knocks?

https://saintswire.usatoday.com/list...manders-bears/

Looks like we're one of four teams that qualify for the series. The question is: Would you watch? Or would it be bad ju-ju for a franchise struggling to get back on its feet?

Re: Saints on 2023 Hard Knocks?

I wouldn't watch. Don't do reality TV. But I suppose Hard Knocks - Saints is inevitable.

What we just witnessed in our last game, if not much of this season was as much of a hard knock "reality tv show" as I can take.

Is it 'Reality TV' per se, or more like a real time documentary? I think the staged crap like 'The Kardashians' when you say Reality TV.

I don't want it to happen. Stay away from the Saints, HBO. But if it did I would watch every second of it.

I'd watch it.

Would really like to see how they operate with DA in charge, the training staff/weight room conditioning, practicing, who is asleep in film study, etc.

I'll quote Prime here ... "you play how you prepare and practice".

I will watch every minute of it, but hope it doesn't happen... LOL

It's actually a very good show and I'd love to watch if it were the Saints.

I really was hoping for a show while we still had Brees and SP. I think that would have been some great TV. Now I would still watch but it wouldn't have me as excited.
I usually watch the first couple episodes every year thou.

Re: Saints on 2023 Hard Knocks?

The show is done very, very well. Some teams are more "entertaining" than others. We do have some interesting story lines. 1. QB situation 2. Kamara situation 3. Thomas situation 4. I think Olave would be a good follow, Mathieu would provide some good stuff. But then we are the Saints, probably not sexy enough for HBO. Unless Goodhell just wants to punish us, which in his typical fashion.

Re: Saints on 2023 Hard Knocks?

It could get very interesting if we have a chance to land Derek Carr.

He's just bid farewell to the Raiders with his latest message to the fans. I think if we could get a good OC, he could be good here.

I don't know about that K Major, can you imagine how depressing following DA around throughout the series would be? Oh my gosh, there would be so little energy in that locker room everyone would be sleeping through film and pregame speeches. Alvin Kamara will miss time with his suspension most likely. Marcus May will miss time with his suspension likely. There is no good storyline in New Orleans currently.

But yeah, "keep doing what you're doing" isn't exactly what HBO has in mind for ratings .

I'm sorry, but Dennis Allen has never told his team to "keep doing what you're doing".

According to Andy Dalton, Allen told him specifically to stick to the current game plan (ie. keep doing what you are doing) at halftime of the Cardinals game when asked by a reporter what Allen said referring specifically to the two pick sixes immediately before the half. It never was any ongoing general philosophy as being implied by some. Members need to try getting the story straight instead of spreading false rumors.

I have never claimed to be a fan of Dennis Allen, but spreading lies or unsubstantiated rumors is strictly prohibited according to the forum rules (See section titled FALSE RUMORS AND INTENTIONAL MISINFORMATION/MISREPRESENTATION).

Just an FYI.

;)

Re: Saints on 2023 Hard Knocks?

Lets get it over with since this will probably be a season where we have absolutely no chance to compete deep in the playoffs. Then we can't be asked as easily in future years when we do, and the media attention on imminent decline could help to usher in regime change.

Wow, this guy is an absolute CLOWN.

Now he's posting forum etiquette because what I stated doesn't fit his narrative.

Thank goodness he isn't a moderator on B&G.

I only responded because I see his quote as I've blocked him.

Mods, I really and truly hope you reach out to this AG guy one on one.

He's going to bring down a WONDERFUL Saints forum & run more people off & away from Black and Gold.

George (Saintfan) called him out last year and I can certainly understand why.

All 4 teams eligible for Hard Knocks initially voted against RG on Thursday Night flexing. Then in the next round of voting, the Saints and Commanders flipped their votes to side with RG and get what he wanted passed. The Bears and Jets stood their ground and said no to RG again. If the NFL was a benevolent idealistic democracy, this would not matter. But the NFL is not that. So I think it will be the Bear or Jets on Hard Knocks. Really this is a QB driven league also, and the Jets have a big story at QB with an MVP Superbowl QB joining their team in a big market. The Bears play in a large market too and have a young 1st round QB who is exciting and beloved in Fantasy Football and polarizing in real football, will legit receivers make him good or has he hit his ceiling? The Saints play in a small market and have a middle aged pretty good QB who gets mentioned alongside guys like Cousins and Garappalo. I am unsure if the Commanders have a QB on their roster. Maybe they have the guy who started for the Broncos against us the COVID year. So I think its the Jets or Bears because Roger Goodell likes ratings and dislikes dissent.

I don't particularly have a problem with the idea, and don't really see any real evidence that it's "bad juju". Maybe it can be a bit of a distraction, but I think that can be managed. We can be the first team to win the Super Bowl that appeared on the show in the same season. Look at life as an opportunity to always break the mold and there are no real limitations.

AsylumGuido 06-27-2023 11:52 AM

Re: Saints on 2023 Hard Knocks?

Cool. This means we should go another decade or more without having to be on that show. We should be a perennial playoff team once again with Carr taking snaps, at least for the next two contracts.

If the Jets defy Roger Goodell on any more votes, Woody Johnson will have to move to Belarus.

There you go Bako. Let them squirm under the spot light instead of us. Let greasy man-bun Rodgers struggle through the scrutiny.

Half the civilized world called it. There was no way the league was going to pass up the opportunity to showcase Aaron Rodgers in the media capital of the nation.

Let's not forget that the Saints were one of two teams to change their vote on Thursday flexing to get the measure passed. You know that didn't come without some retribution. A guarantee that they wouldn't have to endure Hard Knocks would make sense. I have also heard that a part of the deal was to have the league flex their Thursday night game against the Rams out of that night back to a normal Sunday.

I honestly think it's for the best because we are bringing in a new QB and that's just a little bit more pressure piled up on Carr. If this was a young team or something that had shown some improvement last year but still didn't make the playoffs, then I'd be ok with it... I don't think it'd be as much of a disruption. We are undergoing too many changes this year and it'd be nothing but a distraction.

Well said hitta! It would be good to see how things come together at training camp, but with a team on the edge of greatness, it would be a distraction from football focus. Besides, I like it when no one knows who we are. We're flying under the radar baby!

This team has so many more weapons and other pieces than the decimated roster we were forced to play with last season. The pundits aren't looking at that. They just look at last year and expect the same production ignoring over half the players on the roster this year didn't play at all last year or missed significant time.

I'd NEVER miss an episode, but realistically these networks are all about ratings. Dennis Allen is too bland & boring so the Saints are probably out of the running in 2024.

If we hire Gruden, the first piece of revenge will be very straightforward for Goodell. Goodell has always cared more about his own personal power than ratings. Trying to destroy the reputations of some of the leagues most marketable quarterbacks and coaching personalities in Brady, Brees, Payton, and Gruden with manufactured scandals in deflategate, bountygate, and the Gruden leak was never good for long term ratings because it diminished stars, but it was about Goodell showing his power. If the Saints defy him by hiring Gruden, the Saints will be on Hard Knocks unless another team defies him worse on some vote or hire.
