Rumor

Rumor has it,.... Mahomes sprained his ankle, and actually played with the injury and STILL won the game for the Chiefs.....

if true, man.... our prima donna's certainly can learn a thing or two from the man.

:beatnik:

Watched the chiefs game and Mahomes could barely walk.

His offensive lineman were literally picking him up off the turf whenever he got taken down.

True heart from Patrick, he wants to win.

Watching "woulda coulda shoulda been" Saints possibility, in yet another uneventful (and woefully mismanaged) Saints offseason... Gettin old.

True dat.

But Osi Umenyiora will tell ya (in fact he did on this week's NFL show) that it is what you do in the playoffs when immortality of a Super Bowl is staring at you. As opposed in the regular season.

But you gotta prepare and go through the hard stuff (regular season) before you can walk the trail leading to gold (i.e. playoffs).

He's been gone. Despite his injury, he sure hasn't been a team player since he last played meaningful minutes.

We say that but that boy Loomis always finds a way to finesse the books. I'm just not down on the guy. He had 3 TDs in 3 games this season before he went down again. He turned the tide against the Falcons in Game 1 to get us that W. AJ Terrell couldn't stop him. However, Olave and Shaheed do soften the blow of potentially losing him.

He's given up on us, Rez. It's time to end this relationship and don't look back.
He'll likely find another lover and play really well for a few games just to show us that he's happier but that relationship will end up just as sad as this one.

Me neither... but we could have just left his contract alone. His balloon payment if he stays on the team is absurd.

I don't think he's given up on us. I do think we've given up on him though. The way the fans have talked about him for the last several years I couldn't blame him if he didn't want to be here.

Impossible with the restructured contract. It requires guaranteeing him a $30 million roster bonus in six weeks without ever seeing him on the field, and then another guaranteed $30 million if he plays in only 4 games in 2023 for the Saints.

Business, salary cap and money have caught up to MT13's injury issues. The Saints' strategy of restructuring and kicking the money can down the road only works when the player is available and productive. MT13 has been neither going on 3 years now. So, when the big unguaranteed money wall of the contract is staring the organization in the face, it's inevitable that the team will cut bait.

His current contract can be totally renegotiated. Not going to say it will happen, but as long as both parties agree the contract can simply be "torn up" and replaced with a completely new one. It has happened many times in the past, usually with a player on a high dollar contract that wants to prove they can still play. The restructure earlier this year simply bought them more time to make a final decision.

He's probably still gone and I wouldn't blame him, like rez has pointed out, but it's not a done deal.

Fair point... I guess we'll see IF he has any commitment left in him.

Too much money for a player (elite when healthy) that hasn't seen the field in almost 2 seasons & will be on the other side of 30 in March.

Mike is a dawg (again when healthy) but it's time to move on.

If Payton is still your HC ...maybe but I don't see MT playing for the Saints in 2023. Probably cut with a post-June designation (by pass the roster bonus).

Add WR to the list of "needs" on the roster.

We should find a way to keep him. Dallas wins that game last night with MT on the roster. Heck we probably win 2 or 3 additional games with MT active, thus making the playoffs.

I said pretty much the same thing a few days ago, cmike, but had the number of extra wins as high as five. We had so many tight games we barely lost that could have been easy wins with a couple of 1st downs or even single TD's.

Thomas has dealt with two totally unrelated injuries that has kept him out of games. There's no reason why he couldn't play the next five or more years never missing a snap. I'd take that chance in a second on a reworked "prove it" contract.

It qualifies as a consistently problematic $cenario.

Re: Rumor

MT’s absence shouldn’t be the most concerning issue. Thomas had 3 TD’s. Olave is the only receiver that had more. This should be higher on the list.

The receivers were open all season long. Dalton couldn't get them the ball. Let's not forget that Thomas' TD's came from the arm of Winston.

Well Khai Harley is the man. He is the genius that works out the money. Of course, under the auspices of Loomis.
In constrast, I hope the man Harley has found an angle that means that we have to discard the one time rightly highly esteemed MT.

All good things come to an end, with a new ccle of good to follow.

Let's make sure we get a possession receiver who fights for those 50-50 balls.

I think CGM is about a 90/10 guy.

What’s the worst that could happen by not retaining Mike.
Something crazy like MT signing with Dallas and going on to win a SB.
My worst nightmare.
Heck, off the top of my head, there are 5 players the Saints decided not to resign, playing in Championship games this Sunday.

Good players seem to become household names elsewhere.
