He was fully recovered from the ankle before last season. It was the toe of the opposite leg that had surgery last season. I guess your joke fell as incomplete as Dalton's throw to a wide open receiver. ;)

Dalton would have had to throw to the bench or the sauna to hit an open mike, and that wouldn't even be a football, just cash. That's no joke.

You wonder why Michael Thomas doesn't trust the Saints medical team? If JP was still around he'd have a few things to say about that crew.

Can't solely pin it on the Saints.

Did the Saints condone his temp digs in L.A. at $60k per month with his separate circle of doctors? Did that make a difference?

Did Drew trust the Saints doctors? Was Brees ever out for going on three years after an injury?

This little piggy went to market. That little piggy went home. None of the little piggies went to 40 of the last 50 games. Michael Thomas has some eccentricities, as do most successful receivers, but the issue is he can't stay healthy, and there is virtually no precedent for a player being injured this much for this long and becoming reliable again. At best he is a JJ Watt or Jimmy Garappalo of receivers, at worst he is a Jahvid Best or Chad Pennington of receivers. Either way it would be foolish for a team that is not close to a ring to pay big money for highly risky depth at WR when we have two good young receivers and need to clean up our cap and get younger elsewhere on the roster. As he is now, Thomas is not worth more than $6-8 million a year as a lottery ticket.

We've been questioning the Saints medical team for years. Ochsner Hospital could be at fault if that's where all the team doctors come from. Didn't we purge our medical staff a few years back? We've lost several players to misdiagnosed injuries over the years. Didn't Delvin Breaux sue the medical team?

Interesting that you brought that up. Drew Brees did NOT trust the Saints doctors. When he injured his thumb he went to Dr. Steven Shin who is the director of hand surgery at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles. Dr. Shin performed the surgery and oversaw Brees' recovery process.

As for being out three years, Smash, Thomas did not miss three years due to a single injury. He missed less than a year with the first high ankle injury. Then due to complications from surgery (you can thank the Saints doctors for that one) he required a second surgery and missed about eight more months. Then he suffered a totally unrelated injury to the toe of the foot on the opposite leg requiring yet another surgery. He has missed the remainder of his time to this third incident.

Honestly, if I was an NFL player I would not leave any medical decisions to the team's doctors. The team is not looking out for the welfare of the individual player. They are only looking out for the welfare of the team. I would always go outside of the team with any medical question and get a second and even a third opinion. If the independent medical experts tell me to forgo immediate surgery and try a less aggressive solution first I would without question.

The long term health of the player should always be his own top concern.

"Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' comes
Watching the ships roll in
Then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah
I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watchin' the tide roll away, ooh
I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time..."
