Spags wins 3rd SB as d-coord

Remember when the poor guy was fired because the Saints had **** for talent on the 2012 defense. Maybe SP would have won another SB if he had kept him

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It wasn't Spag's fault they were horrible. That was the front office doing crappy drafting.

Lots of woulda coulda shouldas with SP playoffs opportunities., not the least of which was indeed bad personnel on defense under Spags. Better knowledge of the rule book would've handled two of those opportunities (both miracle endings), and the 2011 Greg Williams defense all of sudden didn't care about covering Vernon Davis. That 2011 team was arguably the Saints' most talented team ever.

At least the Saints did make the playoffs a few times and won one Tiffany !

Look... Leave SP alone. It's not his fault the defense with Spags was so bad.

At least that's what he told me when he used to come by the counter at Whole Foods.

The only guy Payton ever reall stacked the D was for Allen. Spags would have done a fine job if Payton was smart about a D back then. Payton cost us Superbowls. Won 1 with Brees behind C in his prime. Let that sink in.

KC has had middle-of-pack defenses ever since Spaggs arrived.

It helps to have Reid & MVP Patrick Mahomes in your back pocket.

Dennis Allen was not that good of a defensive coordinator before Sean Payton began drafting defense with high draft picks.

The further removed we are from Sean Payton, the clearer mistakes become.

I'm not saying they were all on SP, just that there are many more than I realized at the time.

Ultimately as the HC, they are. Same for the non calls which could have been avoided if he knows the rule book better .

Exactly what are these instances that you keep mentioning of not knowing the rule book?

Watching the 2006 team vs eagles in playoffs. Can still remember this and the feelings like yesterday. Loved this team and the game. Little more than a decade later I hated the game, the team, and the players.

Deuce was good man, damn

The very same rule BB used to run clock off the game. If your memory fails you, the two miracle plays at the end of two playoffs games. When I confronted SP at the meat counter when he was buying some ribeyes, he told me to mind my meat. Very SP like isn't it? :o

I'll happily take him as head coach right now. I'm not even really sure if I'm being sarcastic or not.

What rule was that? How many times has it been used? Has it ever been used by any Hall of Fame head coach before Belichick used it? One would think that any other coach that has never used it must suck as badly as Sean Payton, right?

Spags defense gave up 35 points in Super Bowl 57, the most by a winning team in Super Bowl history. That defensive performance would likely have lost all 56 previous Super Bowls, as no team won giving up that many points before. Clearly he is a passable defensive coordinator on the right team, good enough to be a game manager of the defense and get it through with the type of gentleman's C's that will be good enough with the best QB in the game and the best play caller in the game lighting up the offense. But overall, Spags is a guy who was there and got a free ring. He is a Trent Dilfer of defensive coordinators.

You look it up and while you're at it read about:

A loophole once used by Belichick and the Patriots was used successfully against them in the Wild Card game by former Patriot and Titans head coach Mike Vrabel

You can't explain the rule either?

Andy Reid, Patrick & that "system" are just that good. Sean Payton is gonna find out soon enough .

Elite players/elite coaching, KC will always have a shot at winning. Even with a middle-of-the-road DC like Spaggs. But hey I give him credit, he is finding a way.

You can't deposit excuses if you want those Lombardi's :bng:.

Nah.

That defense had Cam Jordan, Will Smith, Jonathan Vilma, Curtis Lofton, Jabari Greer, Malcolm Jenkins, and Roman Harper. Spags system wasn’t working here.

Yep. The problem with Spagnoulo's system is that it is HIS system. He doesn't seem to fit his defense to the strengths of his players. He requires them to adjust to the exact scheme that he wants in place. And then he wants to operate his entire complex playbook day one. It seems like it always take 3/4th of the season for any of his defenses to start to gel. That 2012 defense never gelled. That defense gave up the most yards in NFL history and that was all on Spagnoulo.

On the other hand, the offense under Carmichael that same season was tremendous being ranked 2nd in total yards and 3rd in total points.

I’m here to tell you, those coverages change on the fly depending on route combinations and that **** can get confusing really fast…especially if you come from somewhere that was primarily man.

That's what I've always heard. Not every player can fit that scheme, but can excel if placed into something that maximizes their strengths.
