this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; How many times has a "vote of confidence" been followed by a firing? Just having to come out and say that is an acknowledgement that there is a problem....

Some HCs keep their bad pieces around so they can fire them and put all the blame on them. It happens all the time and I honestly think that's what Allen is doing here. He is insulating himself, creating a cushion with Carmichael. Trying to get that third year even if things go horribly wrong.

I've noticed (with a few some exceptions) that HC's and their top OC/DC's are pretty much joined at the hip. So it's Ride Or Die. It seems that when they do cut bait, they either realize they are on a short leash to make things happen OR the front office is making the call and pulling the plug. Anyway you slice it, if DA gets bounced, it's almost guaranteed (God help us) that PC won't take over. ....the drama unfolds. |

What it does is buy time. I get you are being sarcastic, but there is actually a strategy to it. The longer you are in charge of things the higher chance that you can turn the roster around and still remain coach. When you have a roster issue such as lacking a QB, as a coach you are trying to buy time to find that guy you can win with.
