Draft Week - Final Picks

It's draft week!! With 8 picks in 7 rounds, the Saints have the ammo to draft impact players at key positions, even if (when) the team has to trade up.

That said, let's have some fun. Give us your picks, however you see them panning out, and we'll see who did best.

Uzomah - DE
Tillman - WR
Shakesphere (Spears) - RB
Mauch - G/T
Ekiyor - IOL (depth)
6-8 (no clue here ) ...

Disclaimer: my picks are subject to change as we move closer to Thursday Night :p

The only guess I have is that the Saints will go from having eight picks in this draft to five.

My only prediction is that our first pick which will be higher than #29 will be a player we didn't bring in for a site visit.

Yup. I can easily see that.

Devon Achane in the 3rd round would be a blessing. He’s got IT.

Trade-up scenarios make me nervous AF. Wish we could hijack the war room and make the picks, let Mickey and co. have the weekend off!

saintsfan1976 04-24-2023 01:16 PM

Re: Draft Week - Final Picks

Tuli Tuipulotu DE
Bryan Bresee DT
Darnell Washington TE
Jonathan Mingo WR
Roschon Johnson RB (trade up)
Then depth at Guard and LB

Boston Saint 04-24-2023 01:19 PM

Re: Draft Week - Final Picks

I predict it’s DL, TE, RB in that order. Maybe:

Kancey from Pitt
Laporta from Iowa
Spears from Tulane

I'm eager to see what Loomis and Ireland will do without Payton's input. I actually have more confidence in the draft process without Sean than with him.

I was happy with last year’s draft and UDFA signings. We have 4 players expected to be big contributors.

Me too. I think that Ireland has made a huge difference for the Saints when it comes to drafting players.

I hope it's the other way around. We seem to thrive of late unearthing gems with the middle rounders, thanks to Jeff Ireland. t's our earlier rounder picks that have disappointed other than the recent ones.

I think you might be surprised. If you look at all of the Saints picks from rounds one and two over the past seven drafts you'll see that everyone of them have been starters except for Payton Turner and Trevor Penning and both of them could very well be starters this year. Injuries have delayed both of them.

2022 1 Chris Olave
2022 1 Trevor Penning
2022 2 Alontae Taylor

2021 1 Payton Turner
2021 2 Pete Werner

2020 1 Cesar Ruiz (no 2nd rounder)

2019 2 Erik McCoy (no 1st rounder)

2018 1 Marcus Davenport (no 2nd rounder)

2017 1 Marshon Lattimore
2017 1 Ryan Ramczyk
2017 2 Marcus Williams

2016 1 Sheldon Rankins
2016 2 Michael Thomas
2016 2 Vonn Bell

Agreed. Look no further than last season's 2022 draft. No way the Saints land Chris Olave if SP is still in that draft room & decision-making process.

He probably had his eye on some random small college kid with a red flag medical to play DE.

See Davenport & Payton Turner. IMO both were questionable reaches on Day 1.

Solid assessment sir! But you left out trading up and reaching for a player in the first or 2nd round that will undoubtedly be a project guy, someone that gets injured constantly or never really does anything except “flash.” My guess: A DE. Lol

Davenport cost us TWO numbers ones... he was a mild bust and we used the following year's number 1 for him. Those stings a little.

2022 is looking good. Jury is still out on P Turner 2021. 2020 late bloom for Ruiz. 2029 NADA... see Davenport trade. 2017 was solid.. although they SP is carrying on about Mahomes, he makes it seem he was Nostradamus... if he was, then he effed up. 2016, what seemed like a no brainer at first glance, now looks like WTF.

I know.. can't win them all. Hope springs eternal.

This will be in reality the first draft sans SP influence. Let's see what unfolds.

I’d like to take a moment and single out Payton Turner.
Payton is in the MT13 realm of football players. Payton has proved to be one of the most dominating players on the field when active and healthy. The difference is Mike had seasons where he proved he was top 5 at his position.
Payton’s been not so lucky. Just look at how he was injured last season. Payton was dominating the game and got injured after making an outstanding defensive play.
I’m far from giving up on either of them.

Notice that we have made EIGHT 1st round selections over the last seven years. Interesting, huh?

In the scheme of NFL drafting that's a pretty strong average.

I predict our 1st and/or 2nd round picks for 2024 will be traded away because Loomis has no patience or strategy and the teams that get those picks will be very pleased with their position in 2024.

I will not be upset if we draft Torrence with our first pick. He held his own against Jalen Carter. He’s gonna be a beast.

Here’s my final picks for the first 3 rounds:

DE Myles Murphy, Clemson

Let's bring him home (born in Hammond) :bng:!

I wasn't aware that he started his collegiate career at USL & started as a true freshman.

IMO he's the best guard in this entire draft class.

Most of us here know that you can't count on Andrus Peat to play a full season anyways . Find his replacement.

Good article here showing that over the past ten years the Saints have had among the most active players, primary starters, Pro Bowl and All-Pro players drafted from the first three rounds in the entire league.

According to this info, Denver’s analytical tools being way ahead of New Orleans (according to Sean Payton) have resulted in less draft success over the last three rounds of the last ten drafts? Ok.

Why do you think I’m not relaxed Francis? Payton is the one who said it (fine, he said ahead, not “way” ahead). Just because I recognize a slight doesn’t mean i’m not relaxed about it. Why don’t you relax about my take?

"Francis" was directed toward the paranoid Saints fans on Twitter that think everything is always an attack or a slight. It gets comical at times. :D

I think they go with whomever is highest on their board. There are still quite a few high profile veteran free agents out there to fill holes and we have the cap space. I don't think need is going to be driving their draft unless it matches their board.

I'm really liking the running back from Syracuse, Sean Tucker. He's projected to go on the last day of the draft, if at all. He has good vision, quickness to the hole, speed, and can put his head down to get an extra yard or two.
