Re: Saints Pick 4.19 - QB Jake Haener
Talking with my 90 year old, wise, guru-like, Saints loving father, I feel somewhat better about this pick. My dad played minor league baseball and gave me an interesting take. In baseball, you have lots of pitchers on your team. And even more pitchers that try to make your team. That’s because throwing a pitch is the key part of the game. But it’s key for the hitters as well, because the better pitching they face, the better their hitting skills get.
So, the football translation is throughout training camps with 90 players and preseason you need probably (not counting Taysom Hill) 5 guys to throw enough passes to 7 WRs and 5 TEs trying to make the team without their arms falling off. The 4th string defenses get better facing off against better QBs as well. So even if he doesn’t pan out into an NFL QB, he might be a good addition to help the team anyway because QB is they key position. That said, This is still my least favorite pick by far. |
You think you know, but you don’t know...and you never will! Coach Jim Mora
