Not only here in this piece, but I'm hearing from other sources that the whole foot deal is nothing unexpected (that's why the waiver was written into the deal in the first place) and that those involved are expecting Garoppolo to be ready by opening week. I doubt the Raiders are going to suddenly decide to spend any sort of substantial resources to pick up a starting caliber QB like Winston at this point. They could be wrong, but I think it is mostly media hype.

I know a lot of people have their minds made up about Winston and that’s understandable. But consider he is still only 29 and he’s got a great arm that put up a 5,000 yard season. If I were the Raiders or any team I’d take a chance on him over washed up Ryan, Wentz, or a guy like Dalton who never put up a 30+ TD season. I’m glad we signed Car, but I think JW still has a viable place in the NFL.

I agree completely. I think there's a good chance Winston ends up with a QB needy team sometime before the trade deadline. I just don't think the Raiders are that team. The Raiders knew exactly what they were getting with Garoppolo. They were aware that a procedure was needed on that foot. If they were that concerned they would have already made some move. But, injuries happen every season. Someone will lose a starting QB for an extended period. It happens every year. The Saints should be ready to take advantage of that situation with Winston.

Winston has value to this team. But I'm thinking it's his trade value that will benefit the team most this year. I agree that Carmichael may not know how to game plan for Winston and his tendencies as well as he did with Drew. Last year the team didn't seem confident in Winston and it showed in the play calls. Winston was at his best when Payton was coaching him and making him wear blinders like a race horse while he was micro managed.

Also may never know how much a part his injury played in things.

I used to have a true disdain for Jameis Winston but he really seems to have made big changes in his life. It's not an overstatement that I say that I'm proud of the man.

Saints: Jameis Winston Is 'Ready To Uplift' Derek Carr; Still 'One of Those 32' Starters
Quote:

Not every former first-overall draft pick, nor starting quarterback, is capable of handling being relegated to a backup role, then watching the franchise offer a multi-million deal and coach's vote of confidence to the new starter. However, Jameis Winston has handled the situation with grace and has been very supportive of Derek Carr since he arrived in New Orleans.

Saints need more depth on the Oline. The NFL is a grind.

I’d listen to all trade scenarios but I’d hate to
lose a quality backup (JW) that has proven he can win games.

The offensive line already took a big hit and I won't be surprised to see us sign another big ugly soon.
