Your Breakout Player For 2023

Figured it's time for new post(s) instead of the same regurgitation of topics .

When I say "breakout", I'm referring to a guy who you believe is going to go above and beyond at practices/OTAs/training camp & subsequent games on Sundays. Training camp will be here before you know it.

I'm going with Juwan Johnson on offense and Alontae Taylor on defense.

Who ya got :p :bng: ?

Re: Your Breakout Player For 2023

I'm going to go with breakout player of the season since OTA/TC is so heavily regulated.

Lattimore
Penning

Re: Your Breakout Player For 2023

I’ll go Miller on O. Does a bounce back year from Latt count on D?

Re: Your Breakout Player For 2023

Easy...Carr. He looked like a Pro-Bowler in some of the years that passed. He's going to look like a Hall of Famer this year.

Re: Your Breakout Player For 2023

On D, I'm really feeling Taylor on that other corner!
On O, I like JJ.

My Dark Horse: Michael Thomas!

Solid selections.

Solid.

So no votes for Andrus Peat? NFW... Of course, "breakout" could have a double meaning in his case.

Lol.

Fingers crossed he stays somewhat healthy this year.

IMO 2023 will be Peat’s final season in N.O.

If things go as planned … he will never see the field except from the sidelines 🤞

Shaheed. Thomas is glass. Olave has had some injuries. Carr will air it out.

Re: Your Breakout Player For 2023

Shaheed 60+ touches
Juwan Johnson 50+ catches, 10 touchdowns

Re: Your Breakout Player For 2023

Shaheed ...

Even in year #2, he appears to be a more well-rounded WR vs Harty.

I'm hoping AT Perry becomes another gem in the passing attack.

Has the potential for sure. Key is the QB. Just like Brees brought out the best in his receivers hopefully Carr can do the same.

Was going to go with Rashid but he was my pick last season.
Didn’t drop a pass all season ( I believe this to be true).
I’m going to go with Payton Turner.
Guy hasn’t played a bad game of NFL football yet. Just hasn’t played many NFL football games.

I like how we have a promising young player with initials PT on the D line to pull for and a promising young player with initials TP to pull for on the O line. Weird sort of symmetry I like. Kinda like when we had Pierre Thomas in the offensive backfield and Tracy Porter in the D backfield.

Honorable mention ...

Trevor Penning aka "nasty baby". If he's completely healed from turf toe, watch out.

I am looking forward to Krull's first TD in the Dome when the Dome is Rocking and yelling out Krull's name!

Kendre Miller due to Kamara's likely suspension
Andrew Dowell due to lack of LBs!

That would be cool. It's going to be tough getting playing time with Johnson, Moreau, Hill, and Jesse James all ahead of him on the depth chart coming into camp. That's a lot of experience and TD's scored to leap frog. :D

Dowell will be in competition for one of the two backup spots behind Davis and Werner, for sure this year. I know the team is really high on D'Marco Jackson who we drafted last year and Anfernee Orji, who we picked up as a UDFA this year. Both seem real intriguing. Not sure where Baun, Sewall, Summers, and the Tulane rookie, Nick Anderson come into play. We'll see come training camp with real pads and contact. We have practices scheduled now with both the Chargers and the Texans.

Despite starting the first game poorly I think Penning will clean up and be a solid LT by the end of this years Championship run.:chug:

Right now, Shaheed looks like a safe bet for the Saints breakout player after the first game. Honorable mention- Juwan Johnson.

Derek Carr MVP.

But I dont know how much that is technique and footwork and how much of that is just his achilles heel as an otherwise great athlete. Some things like use of hands and not getting fooled by pass rushers moves are obviously technique while pure physical measureables may be inherent athleticism but I am not sure where this combination of footwork, lateral speed, and getting beat around the edge falls.

And exactly where and from whom did you hear that assessment? I'd be very interested to hear or read that myself. I'd make sure to share it with everyone else, as well!

Thanks in advance!

Lattimore is having a All Pro year.

Penning improved as expected. Nowhere near his ceiling...

Check out that TD run as Penning flattened the defender to the pile :o.

I keep saying ... "give him time".

That was impressive K … a Mack Truck could have driven thru that hole, TP cleaned out that left guard all the way to the right guards position and as you said just drove him into the pile.

Yup. Give them all time. Each of the individuals on our o-line have exhibited excellent play over the past few years. They need the chance to gel as a unit. It will happen and when it does we are going to be unstoppable on both sides of the bal.

Well, two games in Carl Granderson says “hold my beer”.

He’s a real problem.

Granderson is playing amazing, I'm very impressed.

It's not just pass rushing either, he made a Cam Jordan-esque inside move to blow up a Miles Sanders run.

Speaking of pass rushing though, that strip sack was beautiful. If you watch the replay, when he's tracking Young, he's staring at the ball the whole way. Then perfectly chops at Young's right hand to force it.

Very happy with our D line. I also noticed Nathan Shepherd getting to Young quite a few times.

He's come a long way from an UDFA. We need to keep him unlike what we did with Trey Hendrickson. Makes the experiment with Marcus way too expensive.
