Who do you release? Pretty much have to cut a backup lineman you already have. We currently have nine on the 53 man roster and three on the practice squad.

Our backup linemen aren't vey good and the depth really is disconcerting. Peat is a backup now but if he gets hurt.... I like Saldiveri but I'm not betting on him just yet. I know the NFL doesn't necessarily allow for good depth but the better teams seem to find it. Why can't we? Oh yeah, bad drafting in the first round reaching for developmental players. Yes, that was under Payton and DA hasn't missed yet. Penning was still a project but has come along nicely considering he's basically still a rookie.

I think dealing with Oline depth has a lot to do with the QB and skill positions too Rugby. If you have a QB that can do well on pre-snap reads and a RB group that picks up blitzes or a TE group that is good for quick check downs then problems on the Oline can be dealt with. I think we are in better shape to handle those things this year than we were last year.

But, as bad as you think our seven current backups are, do you think that there's actually anyone out there better than our worst? I think it may be a case of thinking the grass is greener on that other side of the fence. I don't think there are but a small handful of teams that can go as deep as seven players deep on the offensive line without starting to hit major question marks.

Sure, we can swap out one or two of our deep backups, but there's no guarantee they would even be as good once you put them on the field. At this point is it worth getting rid of players that have been worked with and developed through the full camp just to throw someone else up against a wall just to see if they stick any better?

Yes! I think we can do better. We can always do better. Look at last years depth as compared to this year. We finally have viable backups across the team....just not on the O line. Our season depends on the line staying healthy or having decent backups again. Trade for a player if we need to. If we don't make a move I'll be.....

I hope you are right, but I seriously doubt it. Offensive line talent is thin across the whole league. They were talking about that a couple of days ago on NFL Radio. I can't see getting anything via trade unless a team is completely out of it and wants to dump a contract. And then only if we need a starter.
