Do the Jets trade for Winston?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; We could trade them Taysom and then the Jets could run Wildcat and Option plays with Breece and Cook all game. Now I'm being facetious!...

Re: Do the Jets trade for Winston?

No matter how many times Brady has sworn to god that he is 200% retired, I would not rule out his being tempted to come back for one year with an elite defense and elite weapons on offense.

If the Jets want Winston I would trade Winston for a 4th. Depth is valuable but in the unlikely event Carr is injured, I don't trust our oline that didn't protect Carr to protect both a more brittle Winston and a newly more brittle returning Carr and to lead us to a championship season through all that adversity. I think if Carr goes down our season is probably over. And in the unlikely event its not, I think Hill and Haener are almost as good as Winston for a few games. There is a recency bias but remember that in one of our preseason games Haener looked better than Winston. And Haener will be back from suspension soon. And Hill would be better with legit deep threats than what he looked like in 2021 with no receivers. We could also pick up a player like Zappe or Greer or something if we traded Winston.

It's true that oline is scarce. Thats why getting more middle round picks for a player we are unlikely to retain long term would be valuable. We can use those middle round picks to draft or trade for oline. Teams out of contention will be willing to trade oline at the deadline. A 4th round pick could also be used to move up for the right oline who we want in the 2nd or 3rd if we don't like the oline likely to be available in the 4th. Or we could trade a 2024 4th for a 2025 3rd and plan for the future.

I think they at least give him the chance to win the job for the rest of the season. Still think they will bring in an experienced QB. Just in case.

Great points. I'm a little surprised that you didn't mention the salary cap though! Lol

As for trading Winston, do the Jets even have a decent pick remaining? I thought they gave up the boat just to get Rodgers.
Quinnen Williams for Winston and a high pick. Guy is a beast.

Williams carries a more than $47 million cap hit to the Jets if traded or cut. They just signed a 4 year $96 million extension through the end of 2027. That dream is a tad out of reach.
