That does bring up a good point on the cap money. Signing that many picks will be costly and if they blew the bank on some huge names early in FA it may close the door on the potential trade up or even the ability to sign our 2 firsts by staying put.
I have said a few times, the value players come at the June cuts because players are fored with the option of taking less money or not playing. Not too many players can set the price that late in the offseason. Teams will only add players that will be great value at that point because ideally you\'d like your roster in ink by that time. Still it\'s a great time to add that immediate impact veteran for less than normal market value. |

I think he was a little misleading with those numbers. That $11 million is not a direct hit on the cap, it\'s salary plus signing bonus, which we all know is spread over the length of the contract, as far as cap hit is concerned.

Looks like Haslett is comfortable with his DT\'s. Have Jackson and Hand lost all that weight? Maybe he\'ll throw Kenny Smith in there. He seems excited about the youth of this football team and that he\'s aiming for depth. We need a starter in this position, not depth. So go out and get you a young fatty, Jim. Not as fat as the current starters. More of a \"svelt\" fatty.

I don\'t know about you other guys, but I think I\'m more optimistic now about the coming years than I have been in a while. I\'ve stated before that the Saints obviously weren\'t going after the high-profile free agents for a reason. Has explained it all. I like the idea. Once again, I know a lot of you want to the Super Bowl NOW, but if there plan works in the future, then that will make Coach Haslett and the front office look like rocket scientists. If it doesn\'t work, then they\'ll just be the typical Saints. I don\'t necessarily think that Haslett will lose his job this season even if he doesn\'t have a winning record or make the playoffs. I belive that he has Tom Benson and the front office convinced that his plan will work. Only time will tell. And did you notice that Haslett ALSO used the key word in his press conference? PATIENCE! I may be one of the few, but I\'m as excited as ever. Not necessarily this season, but for the seasons of the future.

Or paper bags.
Not knocking, but I still have mine from the last (humiliating) defeat with Atlanta, or rather the local bar does. They mounted it up behind the bar and laugh about it every time I walk in. It gets old. |

As far as I\'m concerned, he keeps his job, but I just want to see more CONSISTENTCY. There\'s this odd pattern we\'ve displayed lately - we beat the good teams, then lose to the bad teams. If he can just get the team a little (lot) more consistent, then I\'ll be a much happier fan.
Regardless though, after watching them beat the Rams in that magic game for the playoffs, I\'m willing to give Haslett 10 years. |

Just look at it this way. If we tank this year we could always tie Jim to the yardarm, make him walk the plank and keel haul him all over the Gulf. LOL :P
