I say bring back Gruden. Unless he's completely 86'd from the NFL I'd like to see what he could bring to New Orleans.

Agreed. Still a innovative mind.

Pete C isn't creative enough & is predictable.

How do we know if he's not helping out now from the behind the scenes ?

With the current lawsuit he has going against the NFL I would think that "behind the scenes" would be the only way he'd be allowed in the league.

Sean Payton's having his own offense issues in Denver right now. It doesn't matter how innovative and creative you might be if the offensive line isn't holding up their part of the bargain yet.

Re: Saints @ Panthers Game Day Thread

One question with the offensive play calling that I have, where are the screen plays, so far nonexistent. Is that because of the limited backfield options? It has always been one of tool available in preventing the Defense from teeing off on your QB.

Predictable, static, conservative play calling in the first half, better in the second half they were much less predictable. Taysom behind center running and throwing even if only there 1 time. Taking handoffs/toss in the backfield all of which puts more pressure on the defenses. The guy is Beast running the ball especially when he get a head steam. Game plan him in something other than RPO that is statistically 99.9% Run so far this season.

Let’s play and game plan to win 1st-4th quarter not only on offense but also on defense. Prevent defenses are a holdover philosophy from a bygone era in the NFL. If you have a good defense why take away their ability to control the out come rather than being a passive participant.

2 down 21 to go.

Agreed, the Defense had them on the ropes the entire game.

The "prevent" defense didn't prevent anything. The Panthers marched 70 yards in 50 seconds, using zero timeouts and scoring a TD.

That's what I saw. If Bell picks up the ball, that's a fumble recovered by Carolina, right?

Penning holds up well against bull rushes and he is a mauler in the run game, but attack him with speed and he loses much too often. If I can see that, opposing DCs will see it and it won't get any prettier. Don't know how to fix that fast aside from getting him some TE/FB help.

Not ready to call for Carmichael's head. He's working with what he's got. Let's see how it turns out with Kamara back.

If the cost of winning is bringing in Gruden - that price is too high for me. Still dislike him so much.

Defensive line play the positive surprise of the season.

I said last night, I think one or more of the defensive captain will have conversations with DA about statistically diminishing an outstanding performance with that kind of dated defense that seldom accomplishes it stated purpose. Last night only thing it prevented was a 20-9 win.
