The question is, how much more than $10 million a year is 49 yards a game and 2 TD season total pace worth? The fact is, Thomas's contract is not incentive based, it simply includes incentives. Incentives based would be a league minimum or close base salary with everything dependent on incentives. The fact is, Thomas' salary is 70% base salary (converted to signing bonus). He gets $10 million no matter what. It is 30% incentives which is hardly incentives based, just a cherry on top. And those incentives are just for being active, not elite. Thomas is set to earn about $14 million this year for showing up and hauling in 50 yards a game with sparse TDs on a mediocre team. He is showing up, but his performance is is not meeting his paycheck. At this point in his career he is more of a player who should be earning $5 million base salary plus incentives that don't bring his salary above $8 million total unless he is actually putting up #1 WR numbers. Nobody needs to be paying over $10 million a year for an aging injury prone #2/3 caliber receiver. I don't really have concerns about Thomas' attitude but he is producing like an $8 million a year receiver this year and being paid almost double that. |
