Poll: If you could fire one today?

If you could fire one of the above today and you had to give the rest a legit shot for the remainder of the year to turn things around, who would you fire: Dennis Allen, Derek Carr, Pete Carmichael, or Mickey Loomis?

BakoSaint 11-29-2023 09:41 AM

Re: Poll: If you could fire one today?

I have a feeling that a lot of people would fire Dennis Allen. My answer though would be Mickey Loomis because I believe the problems come from the top first. Loomis hired Allen, went all in on Carr, made various disaster draft trades, went all in to get DeShawn Watson before Carr, kept Pete Carmichael this offseason even when he knew Pete has been trying to retire, maxxed out our cap year after year, and refused to rebuild. I think Mickey Loomis should go first, in-season, because I don't want him have any influence over who replaces anybody else.

I also think its at least possible that Allen, Carmichael, and Carr could have more success under a different GM. Some workers are only motivated if their boss above them exerts some amount of pressure and expectations and asks specific questions about their goals and deadlines. If their boss is their friendliest excuse brainstorming partner ever who just offers them more accomodations the more they fall behind, they coast and go out to lunch. Loomis is that boss, and that cascades downward in the organization. It's possible Allen and Carr would demand specific answers and take accountability if that was modeled from above. Its possible Payton was self motivated and that all came down from him all these years while Mickey Loomis had a beer with Jimmy Buffet and said if we lose, oh well, its not our fault, lets hit the beach, and only Payton's inherent self motivation kept us above water with a front office ready to accept any excuse to go home early and pop a cold one once Tom Benson was out of the picture.

I also think firing the GM would have the benefit of not having to change the system mid season. We could have the same system, except with someone at the top demanding specific fixes not meaningless platitudes, and that attitude being projected down on everyone.

Re: Poll: If you could fire one today?

I would vote for DA but I completely agree with your assessment about Loomis. However, my fear is that Benson would never fire him because that would put too much football pressure on her to find a new GM. I would imagine Loomis is here until a sell goes through or he will be responsible for hiring next GM. I’m not in Nola so don’t know all the in’s and out’s of who could fire Loomis other than Benson. Are you guys aware of who that might be?

Re: Poll: If you could fire one today?

Because of the way the question was worded with "the rest of the season to turn it around", I voted DA.

But if it said I could fire one to get the franchise moving in the right direction, then it's Mickey.

Re: Poll: If you could fire one today?

So, who would be the heir apparent for the remainder of the season if you fire DA? (Hint: it's usually one of the coordinators.)

I trust DA's defensive calls more than the offensive calls being made by PC. That ain't saying much!

I voted Loomis. Get a GM that has a hate for losing and has balls to make necessary moves to build a winning organization. Everything else will fall into place

Pete.

Start with Loomis because he just said he has the right people.
Which means he's not going to do what needs to be done.

So most voted for Pete C. The guy who didn't even want the job but the substitute teacher hired him anyway.

Shocking.

If we fire Dennis Allen and get a new captain then the ship might right itself.

Loomis said “We have the right people in the building.” So there’s our problem.

FWIW, I voted for the Mickster Loomis in this poll. It's comments like this that make me wonder what the hell are we doing here :brood:?

He needs to geaux too.

I've been thinking that with all the gaslighting and arrogance Mickey Loomis would've made a great televangelist. The guy missed his calling.

I voted for Pete due to the way the question is phrased. Fire one, the rest get the remainder of the season, I fire Pete. Firing Loomis won't help this offense in the middle of the season. let someone else call the plays and see what happens and then you can clean house when the season is over.

I get what you’re saying, but I think Pete is the least problematic here of the issues we’re having. Don’t get me wrong, I want him gone, but solely on the fact that I feel we’re boring and predictable. However there still are receivers getting open and touchdowns being missed and that’s solely on Carr. And the fact that Carr is not being benched is on Allen- which he clearly stated weeks ago that he would sit anyone who wasn’t putting in full effort and executing, it didn’t matter who they were. And Allen doesn’t seem to have accountability for not fixing blatant issues which is on….you guessed it! The ol mickster.
It starts at the top. Even in mid season I would put the hammer down on our GM…especially with that garbage comment he made about having the right people in place. That’s where the problem lies imo. The season is pretty much wasted at anyways at the rate we’re going, great time to send a major message.

Yeah, fixing the offense in the middle of THIS season, would just be one bandaid on a team that is dancing with a wood chipper that looks like it ain’t going anywhere soon.

In Loomis' spot his only play at this point is to say that he's made the right choices with the Saints coaches. He can't really say that these beta boys are trash (though he should let them both go). I'm hoping that Loomis knows that this product is garbage and will clean house sooner rather than later.

Despite the fact that these coaches aren't leaders of men, I think the most egregious failure is Carmichael. He should be able to do something with this offense but it suuucks.

Unfortunately, Pete won't be fired until after the season as a scapegoat while Allen and company get another year of mediocrity. When in reality, we need new coaching from the top down. Yes, we have a couple of good position coaches but everybody else needs to be on the chopping block!

At the very least, get Carmichael out of New Orleans now. Hire Gruden. The last time Carr played well was with Gruden. It would piss off Goodell too so that’s an added bonus.

I don't know about that. Godhell cost us several games because he hated Sean so much. I don't want that kind of animosity again. Let's not carry that monkey around our neck again. :monkey:

I think the refs still have animosity for the Saints. Early last year when it was not yet clear we were no longer a contender, they were very unfair to us. Its just on pause because we are not contenders so there is no point for them to harm us it would just improve our draft pick.

I actually thought of a way to get the ref monkey off our back. Hire some exec who is in tight with the league and refs as new GM to replace Loomis. He doesnt have to make a lot of football decisions and he can retire in 5 years. But that might get the refs off our back for good. Or maybe Goodell has some brother or nephew we can hire.

Loomis as a new GM won't be wedded to the coaches, scouts or players and might be willing to do what's needed

Given last week's moral victory and this week's lopsided final score, we'd be lucky if Mickey changes the popcorn vendor.

So yeah. Fire Gayle.

TheOak 12-18-2023 12:34 AM

Re: Poll: If you could fire one today?

If you believe poor choices beget poor choices then they all must go which would be my choice but somehow is not an option.

Gayle wouldn’t be replacing Mickey, just like Tom didn’t find Mickey; a talent agency was and will be used to do that. Not a single person on that list has a shred of integrity or a love for the franchise, for them it’s just a job. Each should own their part in systemic failure and step down to allow the organization to grow.

This Louisiana “my guy” bullsh1t is an anchor around the organizations throat preventing it from breathing the air of growth and progress.

There is a reason Sean didn’t take any with him and they haven’t been poached. Misfit toys drown if they leave the island.
