Its great we are talking about a player who hasn't been relevant in the league since 2019. Those 20 games and 1100 yards and 4TDs has been worth the hassle and contract.

That's a blip, as well, moving forward. That contract will be chicken feed in a handful of years based upon the CBA and broadcast contracts. That CBA guarantees the players' share of all revenues is 48.8% and as long as the revenues keep climbing (which is locked in for the next decade) player contracts will climb.

The fact is that haters are gonna hate and excuses are excuses as for why people hate people they decide they are gonna hate.

With all of this *****ing about how much Thomas has cost the Saints the fact is that in his eight years in the league he has only received $72,520,383 cash. His 2024 salary would be $1.21 million.

There is a domino effect. We will likely take the cap hits and write off Thomas and Winston's deals this year, with some hit also possible to the 2025 salary cap. But Thomas's contract was one reason we had to restructure other risky veteran contracts in the previous offseason and extend Winston even though we had no intention to use him. And Thomas and Winston's dead cap hits in 2024 and 2025 offseasons will make it hard to afford to be able to move on from other contracts we might like to or be smart to get out of like Ram, Carr, Lattimore, Kamara, Maye, Hill, etc. In act it will force us to restructure most of those players and make it even harder to move on when they are even older. Having to keep one diminishing player too long because we can't afford the long term cap savings of a short term cap hit leads to having to keep the next round of diminishing players too long because we can't afford the long term cap savings of a short term cap hit. All this has happened before and all this will happen again, as long as Mickey is running the show.

That salary is a meaningless placeholder. It is a void year.

A better way of looking at Michael Thomas's career earnings is that he made $4 million his first 4 years from 2016-2019 as a 2nd round draft pick, which is what 2nd round picks earn. From 2020-2023 he made $68 million for like 20 games, 1000 yards, 4 TDs. His extension was technically signed in 2019 but he was already under contact then for cheap, so basically it was a bonus to continue 2020 and beyond that did not work out well. It was worth a try, but a team in a better cap situation would have cut bait earlier.

Mickey's going to keep running the show for many years to come whether you, or anyone else, likes it. I have this somewhat guilty feeling of pleasure just knowing how it pisses you off after putting up with two years of your constant bellyaching.
