Just cutting Carr this offseason is possible but I can't understate that it would be VERY VERY VERY costly to your salary cap. In order to get under the Salary Cap we have to restructure about 2/3rds of our starter level veteran contracts. But Carr is the biggest contract on that list. If we cut Carr we cannot restructure him, and he is like 1/3rd of our restructuring budget with his contract alone, while cutting him would have a reverse effect, adding more dead cap hit from prorated bonuses. The result of outright cutting Carr rather than trading him (where the traded salary more than counters the dead cap from prorated bonuses) would be a giant cap hit that would mean we have to restructure and kick the can on virtually every other veteran on the team. That means a lot of 2025+ dollars accounting to Jordan, Davis, Kamara, Hill, Maye, Mathieu, Ramczyk, Lattimore, etc. Basically if we rebuild by cutting car we can't move on from anyone else, sign anyone (I don't think we should sign any big free agents this offseason anyway), or stop kicking the can with anyone (I might like to avoid restructuring some aging players like Kamara, Ramczyk, or Lattimore so that we have options if they stop performing well in 2024). If we were able to trade Carr by including picks, it would make the cap pain much less, and then we would have more options on other players to move on if they dont fit the new coaches system, avoid kicking the can if we want to keep them but be responsible, or add new players if absolutely needed.

Giving Haener a chance at the end of this year or next year would be reasonable.

Although Carroll and Belichick did not light the world on fire in their first coaching gigs, they had winning seasons in tough divisions and generally won more than 4 games per year. Also with Belichick I remember the Browns improved the year he joined and backslid the year after he left. With Dennis Allen it was the reverse, the Raiders were better the year before he arrived and better the year after he left.
