2024 Projected Salary Cap Quietly Reduced
The projected salary cap for teams for 2024 has quietly been reduced. I guess the Sunday Ticket deal was not as lucrative as expected or the covid makeup dollars hit harder than some thought. While it was expected to increase from about $225 million in 2023 to about $256 million in 2024, teams are now expecting only about $242 million in 2024. Earlier higher cap increase projections were already built in to the Saints rebuild math. What this means is that instead of having to restructure about 2/3rds of our veteran money to get under the 2024 cap, we need to restructure about 3/4ths of our veteran money. That means the vast majority of our aging veterans and extension busts will be back as happy haunts in the Saints 2024 lineup and if we make any significant addition we will be in the same situation in 2025 unable to move on from Carr even then.

Maybe stop acting like Dennis Allen for one week, and we could have a more productive conversation. |

Sad part is I was in agreement when we hired him. I was wrong.

Re: 2024 Projected Salary Cap Quietly Reduced
I wonder if Khai Harley will be leaving the Saints? We could use the two third round minority comp picks if he is hired somewhere else. The good news is that most of the salary cap plan is already in place for the next couple of years if he does leave. Our accounting method is being installed all across the NFL and is the future.
However, if we lose big time next year then I can see the Saints going in a different accounting direction to get the cap under control for a couple of years while we build another contender. Rather than the pretender that we now have. |
