5 Possible OC Candidates

5 Possible Replacements for Pete Carmichael

What do you think?

They'll need someone who's offense will gel with mostly the players under contract.

How did Eric Bieniemy do in DC?

Re: 5 Possible OC Candidates

Assuming we keep DA...

Darrell Bevell. He's worked with top QBs and currently passing game coordinator at Miami. He'll maximize Carr.

If you want to keep Carmichael around, make him an advisor.

I have no confidence whatsoever in what/who the Saints front office will target @ OC. The only "fix" for this team is getting a new HC. It's going to be the same issues in 2024.

Side bar - is Jon Gruden eligible for hire even though he's suing the NFL?

For me it's a toss-up between Dorsey and a bunch of guys we probably have never heard of if Mickey actually had the initiative to do a proper search.

I think some of the candidates that Mickey Loomis and Dennis Allen will be looking at include Bill O'Brien, Mike Shula, Jay Gruden, and Norv Turner. They could also look at elevating Doug Marrone.

Gruden hasn't been banned. So, I think, teams can hire him and piss off Godhell if that's the type of attention you're looking for as an organization.

Also i doubt Allen will want anyone who could replace him if things start badly. It'll be a yes man. Meek coach who the players ignored won't hire a coach under him who is vocal, or has his own ideas

Norv Turner could work for that since by virtue of his age and past head coaching record he is no threat to DA. They could watch Matlock together.

Do tell. I have no knowledge of him as a coach. Knowing your reputation, I wouldn't think this is a joke. I'll have to research this. Very exciting college football player.

He’s a WR’s coach up in Detroit. It would be an interesting gamble on a former NFL player who’s learning under a great staff in Detroit right now. He has no buzz at the moment though, just somebody I noticed recently.

Oooo. I like the outside the box thinking. This front office is not likely to roll the dice on ANY of the above OC's.

Jon Gruden is the easy answer at OC. Just like DA was the easy answer at HC. It doesn't mean that they are the right answer though.

New Orleans Saints Offensive Coordinator Search: Ronald Curry, Zac Robinson, or Brian Hartline Among Best Options

Quote:

Curry has been with the Saints since the 2016 season where he joined as an offensive assistant. He has since worked his way up as a wide receivers coach (2018-2020), quarterbacks coach (2021 - present) and then added the role of passing game coordinator in 2022. Curry has been consistently complimented on his contributions to the Saints' offense by Carmichael himself along with head coach Dennis Allen and quarterback Derek Carr.

This is an interesting article.

This is an interesting article.

Have no idea what goes on behind the scenes, but the Saints should have given Ronald Curry a serious audition as a playcaller after losing to the Vikings (subsequent bye week), then losing again to Atlanta & Detroit.

Dennis Allen & Loomis refused to make a change ... now Pete is out.

Joke is on them.

Re: 5 Possible OC Candidates

IMO Zac Robinson should be a strong candidate for OC.

He's worked as an assistant under McVay for 4 seasons, most recently as pass game coordinator.

Young (37) & innovative.

i'm kinda leaning towards a younger unproven OC as opposed to someone who has been thru the washing machine, recycle program. Besides with DA driving the bus, I'd rather give him the rope to hang himself rather than someone picked to fall on the sword for him. New blood has fewer expectations. just my .02. So hell, why not.

Re: 5 Possible OC Candidates

The process of finding a new OC has really just gotten started. After the playoffs are over and more coaches are available things are going to heat up real fast. After the lazy search for a HC two years ago and lazy OC searches for the last two years they need to do their due diligence to find the right man for the job.

But I'm pretty sure that Jon Gruden is already looking at houses in Metairie close to the facilities.

I'd welcome him in ...

Worked with McVay. The Saints need a guy who can really open things up offensively.

I've heard he's looking at the Garden District.

Just look at the replies from Seahawks fans, at least the Saints can save on airfare, most of the Seahawks fans would drive him to New Orleans

I suppose, but a more specific complaint by many is his conservative red zone play calling, not a good thing for us. But hey who knows maybe he’d do wonders for us.

I'm liking the idea of an experienced play caller to run the offense.

Take all pressure off DA and let him focus more on the Defense.

Didn't he improve Geno Smith's overall game though? Specifically his ability to move in the pocket.

DCarr needs all the fine tuning he can get.

He did help improve Geno, but Geno is a little more willing/mobile than Carr i think. He would definitely be better than what we've had the last few years.

Re: 5 Possible OC Candidates

Just give me someone who is an Alpha male and can be the HC on offense. We need someone to establish accountability. It was obviously missing under Pete Carmichael the last couple of years. I'm not sure which one of the candidates is the best man for the job since I don't watch other teams play anymore. But I'm reading everything I can get my hands on about their coaches and free agents because I want to be informed about my team and the direction we may take!

I do know that there are several qualified candidates still coaching playoff games that we probably have our eye on. Like Mickey said, this takes time, so let's take the time and get it right.
