New Report: Atlanta Falcons Hiring Former Patriots Coach Bill Belichick

According to a new report by NFL on CBS insider Josina Anderson, New England Patriots' legend Bill Belichick will be the next head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.

Though highly coveted on the NFL market and with seven teams having coaching openings, the 71-year-old Belichick has only interviewed with the Falcons. According to Anderson, the deal is "expected, barring a snag in negotiations."
Whatever. Funny that the Coach of the team that embarrassed the Falcons in the Superbowl is likely going to be their new head coach.

What a way to finish a stellar career, if it does indeed happen. It'll be like taking the last few laps around the bowl before retiring to the sewer.

Let's just hope they don't land a good QB (pick #8) in the upcoming draft.

Forget the Falcon "hate" ... they are a decent/good QB away from becoming a legit threat in the NFC South.

The man is still a mastermind on special teams and defense.
One thing about Belichick is that he runs a tight ship like Sean Payton did when he was here. I am focused on the fact that his initial meeting was only with Arthur Blank because I believe he wants total autonomy in Atlanta. If he gets a good QB in the draft with the eighth pick then he could easily control the NFC South for the near future.

I changed my mind about wanting the hoodie in New Orleans. I believe that it's better to have Belichick fix things here than for a division rival.

He wasn't able to fix anything in New England after Tom Brady left. Why should it be any different in Atlanta?

I don't think Belichick will be great again, but I don't think failing to replace Tom Brady is really a valid criticism. I would be much more worried about his age, the historic trend of coaches who won a Super Bowl never having the youth or drive or desperation to win again with another team, and Belichick's horrible track record drafting receivers, and more recently acquiring no great receivers by any means. Finding a great QB in this league is harder than making a 3 point shot in the NBA, and you typically only get a shot every few years, because if you find an ok QB or you coach the rest of the team well, you don't quickly get another high pick, while if you go the free agency route and miss it takes years for your salary cap to recover.

Basically Belichick had 1 shot with Mac Jones and missed, which is like Stephon Curry missing one 3-pointer, and suddenly being declared unable to hit 3's. And Mac Jones was not a high 1st round pick, he was a mid round guy like Kenny Pickett, Justin Fields, or Dwayne Haskins. In this league I think you have to take shots at QB and be prepared to miss and take the next shot, and its not an exact science. Having a DC play OC in Jones 2nd year was probably a mistake, but also probably Jones is Pickett and it does not matter.

What I would worry about with Belichick is cronyism in recent assistant coaching hires that have not been effective, lack of ability to develop receivers, and getting too old to adopt new schemes. One data point is not enough to say he couldn't hit on a QB if he gets another chance with a higher pick or he is in a position to recruit a top free agent QB with an offense that actually has weapons to attract one and salary cap to make a top offer. I don't think New England was an attractive destination when Brady left with somewhat of a salary cap mess, the shadow of Tom Brady looming over whoever replaced him, and a garbage pail receiving corps. But perhaps in Atlanta Belichick can draft Jayden Daniels or lure Kirk Cousins in free agency.

Boy, did you totally miss the mark. LOL! I wasn't implying that his failure would have anything to do with "replacing a QB" or failing to do the same. You can't replace a Tom Brady. D'uh! Basically it was all of those other overly obvious reasons that you listed. Belichick couldn't win without Brady both before and after. The cesspool that is the Failclowns will remain the Failclowns whether Belichick chooses to end his floundering career there or somewhere else.

Re: Would you want Belichick?

Kinda need to point out that Belichek’s Pats teams played in an historically bad division, almost never having a road playoff game due in part to this inequality. 6 guaranteed wins has nothing to do with coaching. I doubt he’ll reach the same heights, even with a clowns team in the nfc south, which, by the way, is not as poor as it superficially seems.

Re: Would you want Belichick?

Didn't realize Jim was still interviewing for the Falcons job .
Harbaugh with a legit QB would be awful for the Saints.

Re: Would you want Belichick?

He was unable to replace Brady in much the same way Payton was unable to replace Brees. Bill made the effort and tried to prepare but chose poorly and it cost him his job. Payton never really attempted to try other than the half hearted effort of running JW out there. Sean bailed before it got bad. I don t want DA but I sure don’t want Bill either. If things continue to go south next year we need to go back to the young energetic OC like we did in 2006. There are plenty out there and maybe this OC search is just that. Question is, is DA in charge of this hire or is Mickey? If it’s DA then maybe this is a one season hire, if it’s Loomis then maybe our next head coach is being hired right under DA’s nose. Reality is so much more interesting than fiction.

I am going to pull your post to quote because I like what you summed it up with.

“Reality is much more interesting than fiction.”

Saints need , many needs: maybe more strength at qb, HC and n HC brings his own staff,…..I am way ahead in the worrying….God forbid, but if she “ leaves” who will ____ theSaints…will the team be in N.O…you know what I mean. I cannot even say these exacts words out loud. No one can as if though it has not crossed your mind every football season.
