Rebuilding...
Time to rebuild... I want Tatum Bell. We trade everyone no one worth keeping. I'd give Amac a shot in the off season. Keep Brown but everyone else goes... To hell with Speed I say we rebuild on SIZE... We need to bully and push teams not build on speed just to get blowed back all the time.

RE: Rebuilding...
How about size and speed... that makes much more sense. Who wants a bunch of 4.7 4.8 guys playing defense out there against the Tomlinson's, Moss's, Owens' out there. Certainly not me... and definately not you either.
Look at the dramatic improvement of Indy's defense this year... that defense is built strictly on speed. It's not the players that we have, it's the coaching and scheme in which we are working with. Our offensive line as you can see, is already built with size. There aren't any small guys there if you noticed. Our linebacking crew isn't exactly light weights either and they are all fast. It's all in the scheme. Great Tatum Bell has one good game every now and then... and now you think he's going to be a good fit here. It's the system... not the player. Look how much of a drop off Portis has had ever since he's left. Can you name a back from Denver that once he left has had the same amount of success? Probably not. Gary was a flop and Droughns isn't really lighting the world on fire in Cleveland. Griffin was cut and no one considered signing him. |

RE: Rebuilding...
Uhm Our system don't work... thats why we rebuild and start over. Tatum Bell is coming around and huge burst and speed. Duece is done, he doesn't have "it" anymroe. Indy does has some size on D as well not just speed. Coaching plays a huge part in the turn-around there but you can't take one team, SD, PITTSBURG, NE, these guys are big... you'll wear out the o line blocking these guys. I'd give you a couple of key players with speed but you got to have guys who just pound and pound with there size on both sides of the ball. With us we are the opposite lots of speed and a few guys that are huge.

RE: Rebuilding...
No doubt our system isn't working... it hasn't been working for years. But it seems as if you are asking for a complete overhaul, which essentially would make us another expansion team. Let's start with the coaching and go from there.
Now if we are talking strictly about defense, compare Pittsburg's, NE's, and San Diego's linebacker sizes with the Saints. If you really look at it, everyone is pretty similiar. It's not the size of our backers, once again it's the scheme. One thing that I do agree about getting bigger is the size of our DT's. We don't have one single guy that commands a double team down there in the trenches. That position needs to be addressed. As far as our offensive line, they are a large group of guys. I don't think the size is the problem there either. Once again, it's all coaching and our schemes. Very ineffective. A large overhaul in player personnel will not improve our chances of putting a winning product on the field. For example Washington a couple of years ago and Minnesota this year. Look what Philly, Pittsburg, and NE has been able to do. Gone Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent... enters Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown. Look at the job Clark Haggans and Larry Foote have been able to do in Pitt. They were special teams players who were able to jump right in an replace major impact players at their LB position. We don't even have to talk about NE over the past couple of years, we all know what's been going on there. Coaching, coaching, and coaching. |

RE: Rebuilding...
I agree a lot of issues are with the coaching... but your players also have to step up and play and that doesn't not happen with what we have either. A lot of the players aren't getting any younger either and losing a step, its time to over-haul.

I believe with a few moves in key spots on defense we can compete. McKenzie & Smith have played well in the secondary but they need help. I too believe we need some big bodies w/ motors at DT. We're o.k. at DE. LB's on the other hand are where we need help the most (other than QB). They are fast, but they have no field awareness. They bite easily on play fakes & they can't tackle! Get a good DT, 2 LB's who have heart, & another corner & we have something to work with!!!!!!!!!!!! |
