Re: Klint Kubiak could be the Saints new OC
More changes to Kubiak's staff.
From Bob Rose's SI.com link above: The New Orleans Saints offensive coaching staff continues to get a makeover. Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com reports that Saints QB coach Ronald Curry will not be part of the offensive staff in 2024 under recently hired new coordinator Klint Kubiak. Dan Graziano of ESPN also reports that Saints assistant offensive line coach Kevin Carberry is leaving to accept a position as offensive line coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Saints reportedly agreed to terms with San Francisco 49ers passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak to become the new offensive coordinator last week. Kubiak will officially take the position after the 49ers play the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII this Sunday. Currently, only TE coach Clancy Barone, assistant offensive line coach Jahri Evans, and offensive assistants Kevin Petry and D.J. Williams remain on the offensive staff. The Saints are reportedly interested in John Benton as a possible offensive line coach. Presumably, Kubiak will have a say in the hires for QB coach, WR coach, RB coach, and other spots on the staff. |

John Benton is an American football coach who was most recently the offensive line coach and run game coordinator for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). [1] He previously served as an assistant coach for the San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans and St. Louis Rams.

When Loomis said we have the right people in the building, I was expecting for nothing to very little to change Even though it’s not the firings I wanted, it’s definitely a move in the right direction and I’m happy about that. Klint was the one I wanted and glad to have him, however I’m wondering how long will the offense take to come to fruition, especially with this amount of changes in not only scheme but coaching changes.

I hope Kubiak kills all of that gadget trickeration, taking the QB out on 2nd down type stuff. It fooled no one.
When was the last time you saw Purdy or Mahomes come out for a play? Change will be good @ OC. |

It's also very possible that Taysom Hill's utilization is a product of orders from the front office to justify his costly contract that we cannot afford to exit, not a strategy of any offensive coaching staff looking to maximize offense. Hill produces enough in the wildcat that his contract is not an obvious blunder to casual fans, it gives cover, even if when we take a step back it comes directly at the expense of dollars spent on other QBs, probably interrupts the offenses flow, and the money would have been much better spent on oline that elevates all QBs. Kubiak may have no choice but to continue playing Hill if he follows orders. I don't think Hill's value on the open market would be quite $10 million. Perhaps more like $5 million, even with Payton, at his age. So its possible he could be convinced to take a pay cut, if the Saints restructure enough other players to make cutting him a credible threat, which is questionable that they can. He could also take a pay cut as part of a trade, or a pay cut could help facilitate a trade. But a trade before June 1 would likely cause the Saints too much cap hit. But if he is looking to play elsewhere he might just ask the team to cut him, which the team may be financially unable to afford with the dead cap, at least until post June 1, and may need a restructure before then to get under the cap. It's a complicated situation. |
