Saints are parting ways with offensive line coach Doug Marrone, per source
Can't say that I'm surprised.
Too many high draft picks under performing inside those trenches. Source - Nick Underhill |

Kubiak's influence will change up things with scheme. I hope he bring in his own guy.
Most of these old school coaches are stuck in their ways. Fresh, young faces are needed and necessary. |

Here's your man I reckon
James Cregg is in his second season as a 49ers assistant offensive line coach. He joined the 49ers after spending three seasons (2018-20) as the offensive line coach at Louisiana State University. |

Oh damn, I only just mentioned that I hoped this would happen in the Kubiak thread the other day lol

Re: Saints are parting ways with offensive line coach Doug Marrone, per source
This could be good, but I am not sold on blaming Doug Marrone. We don't know what went on behind the scenes. While we had lots of high draft picks on offensive line many were considered high reaches, and many were drafted with a notion of playing them outside their normal positions which is a recipe for disaster. Cesar Ruiz was a center in college but we drafted him with our Center spot already taken by McCoy. Andrus Peat was a left tackle in college, but we drafted him on the notion that he could play right tackle or guard. Trevor Penning was just a raw rural juco kid and we penciled him in as day 1 starting left tackle.
Maybe Marrone was a bad coach, maybe he was a good coach, but what he had to work with was highly questionable. If he thought Penning was ready to start and took so long to realize Peat belonged at LT not Penning, and was all in with paying Cesar Ruiz, then he is an idiot. But its also possible that the final configuration of our oline that won 4 of 5 games was what he wanted all along, and that he was ordered by Loomis and DA to start Penning at LT and feature Ruiz as some elite guard to justify Loomis' bad picks and just 'do you job, make it work.' In the end, one less geriatric Matlock drinking buddy for Loomis and DA is a good thing, but the root of the problem is Loomis, who traded up to draft Penning and forced him to start, drafted and overpaid Ruiz, and broke the bank for Carr when it was obvious to anyone that our oline would struggle to protect an aging QB. |

In saying that, I hope we look to upgrade from him this off season :D. New coaches, new blocking scheme. We shall see. |

The fact is that anyone who isn't blaming Loomis is thinking his moves to replace others will fix the problem, so I just choose to blame Loomis not the fall guys and patsies he lines up. I expected our oline to be an issue from the start so I blame the guy who assembled it, not the coach. |

Results based business. They simply weren't worthy of their draft position, aren't worth the salaries they are being paid, or the coaching was horrible. They did not perform well.

Possible replacement. John Benton. Another Shanahan and Kubiak guy.
