Re: Saints sign Chase Young
We have to trust Mickey Loomis did his due diligence.
https://media.tenor.com/4kaJlIM8-ZMA...g-simpsons.gif I'll go ahead and make this prediction, regardless of how the rest of free agency plays out, if Chase Young gets 12 sacks, we'll win 10 games. If he gets 6, we'll win 7. Being blessed with so much god given physical talent, that's how impactful he can be if he's healthy and motivated for his next contract. Now with that said, the crappy part is that he's so gifted that even if he doesn't ball out for us, he's going to remain a rich man regardless as someone will always take a chance on him unless he gets suspended or kicked out the league. I really hope he goes out there and tries to earn that fat contract. |

A bunch of broken misfit toys loosely assembled for Dennis Allen to preside over. There will be Pain.

Oh, and that contract isn't as fat as it initially appeared. Loomis knows what he's doing. |
Re: Saints sign Chase Young
Read it’s not 13 million guaranteed. It 2.7 million base, 1.8 signing bonus, 500k workout bonus and 470k per active game.

Re: Saints sign Chase Young
The per game roster bonuses are good mechanism IF they stay in place. The thing is, addictions are hard to break, and roster bonuses make excellent candidates for restructuring, which is a certain junkies drug of choice. The legitimate fear I have is that a certain PR genius knows he can double dip on getting credit for engineering these roster bonuses as injury protection, then once the story fades, restructuring to prove cap wizard acumen creating cap space to make some other ill advised move happen. If the junkie needs a fix, I would not be surprised at all to read in May that the Saints have restructured Chase Young's contract to free up $7.5 million in cap space. This would involve converting his $2.7 million base salary to $1.2 million bonus and converting his weekly roster bonuses to a lump some restructure bonus, both prorated over 5 years. Worse still, this could be spun further to lump the restructure into an extension just a few weeks in the season, based on very small sample size of effort and durability, just like Granderson and Ruiz were extended in the first 3 weeks of the season last year. Similarly last year the Saints expected that Alvin Kamara would face a suspension, but still restructured his base salary into a bonus, effectively guaranteeing the vast majority of his pay for the affected games, and giving away financial protection in return for short term cap relief and long term debt. I hope the injury protections are real, but considering that last year the Saints did not leave any stone unturned on restructuring including a player they knew would be suspended and were down to about $3 million that could have possibly been freed up, I think I have a right to doubt whether they will leave $8 million unturned for the whole year and truly protect us from another injury with this player.

At the very least, we've improved our 3rd down pass rush.
Look at the contract and temper expectations. Same goes for the rest of the contracts. I've read the term "soft reset" and it makes perfect sense. |

The vitriol is overwhelming. :brood: Maybe some of you guys should take a break.

Re: Saints sign Chase Young
If you take a quick look at post #52, notice the breakdown of Chase's salary. That's pretty good injury protection.
Could be a reason why his cap hit for 2024 is so low. I wish him well with recovery (surgery was on yesterday) but I'm still drafting a DE (1st or 2nd round) next month. |

Good listen here.
Interesting take from Skip ... "gifted with a LOW motor". Also check out Keyshawn's comment on his nephew (Can't Call Mike) towards the end. |

Re: Saints sign Chase Young
Regardless of the injury it is just a prove it deal at market price. Davenport got 10 million from the Lions. He played 4 games and had 2 sacks and got 3 million less. I'm interested to see who he takes snaps from? I'm assuming Jordan on 3rd down but IDK?

Re: Saints sign Chase Young
On those third and longs, you'll likely see Jordan kick inside. It'll probably be Granderson, Bresee, Jordan, and Young in those situations.

Re: Saints sign Chase Young
Young might not be ready for training camp which opens the door for last years injured DE's. We'll get to see what Foskey and Payton Turner can do with more reps. If those two could stay in the rotation this year we would get more pressure from the edge. Let's get more sacks, pressures, QB hits, and runs for loss than we have. Let's contain those edges better and shut down the mobile QB. Young needs to step up and lead the team by shutting down anything designed to go to the outside. While we're at it let's not forget that Willie Gaye has good speed and can cover sideline to sideline.

Re: Saints sign Chase Young
Chase Young’s availability in 2024 is paramount. Pass rush gotta be better.
Tanoh is indefinitely out, Cam turns 35 on tomorrow & no clue what Payton Turner will do. Foskey is essentially a rookie. Young may be the most critical piece to this defense. There’s a lot of legit QBs on this years schedule & Carl needs help. |
