Would the Saints have a ring if immediately after signing Brees, they drafted Matt Leinart too instead of giving Brees a weapon in Reggie Bush? Would the Bucs have a ring if immediately after signing Brady, instead of using their 1st round pick on Tristan Wirfs, they drafted Jordan Love? Sure, Love would be great for the future, but they probably dont win it all in 2020 without Wirfs. How many rings did the Packers win with Favre after drafting Rodgers, or with Rodgers after drafting Love? How many rings did the Ravens win with Flacco after drafting Jackson, the Eagles with Wentz after drafting Hurts, or the Chiefs with Smith after drafting Mahomes. The fact is, once you draft a 1st round QB, you give up on winning it all with your veterans starter. Giving up on Cousins before he plays a snap after giving him $180 million is a financial disaster, and for all we know if they got a Wirfs or Reggie instead and Cousins plays well, maybe they could have won it all.
Not sure it really matters. Atlanta isn’t winning a Super Bowl with or without Kirk Cousins. Kirk isn’t Brady. Kirk is Dak Prescott. I think they were sold on him being the QB then the head coach saw something he really liked in Pennix. And as far as financial disasters are concerned, they never really seem to matter much if you ask me. This could have been their plan all along. Pay a veteran for four years and go the Aaron Rodger’s route with a rookie QB.
