He was supposed to be the best player on the board, best buy pick since later in the 1st round. You never know. Dude has a fire arm and played for South Carolina who had nobody to protect him.

Re: QB Spencer Rattler

He looks pretty average to me. Its the pick I like least.
Ian Book, Jake Haener and now Spencer Rattler.

I see a pattern here.

To paraphrase Forrest Gump: QB's are like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're going to get!

You could draft a Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf in the 1st Round, or you can draft a Brady in the 5th. Roll the dice with a 5th round pick and see what happens!

Re: QB Spencer Rattler

I've got some concerns over Rattler's past behavior that was never explained and from what I've read he was a high school star and it looks like it went to his head and he stopped blossoming. His college career was up and down and he looks to be another late round prospect with potential to be good when he gets good coaching.

If Klint Kubiak picked him in the fifth round in his first New Orleans draft then I've got to be a little enthusiastic. Coach him up. You just never know.....

Re: QB Spencer Rattler

He looks pretty good throwing the ball in my opinion.

He ran a pretty awful 40 at the combine but he looks a lot bette rmoving in this clip. Quicker than fast but still able to gain some yards against some of the SEC's best.

Pretty good stats. Over 3000 yards in 3/5 seasons. A better than average completion rate. And a TD to INT ratio that is better than 2:1.

I'd say thats okay for a 5th round QB.

Re: QB Spencer Rattler

I watched him on QB1 back when that show first aired. His attitude wasn’t the best. It seems like he’s matured and got better in that regard. He’s not an elite athlete, but he has great arm talent. He can make good things happen when given time. He definitely has potential. It’s not a bad lottery ticket.

I see him already above Haener. But, I truly believe Carr is set for a great year. He got humbled a little last season. He got beat up. He played through it all and was playing as well as anyone late last season.

Re: QB Spencer Rattler

I’ve been watching his film all morning. South Carolina must have had Pete Carmichael, Jr. as their OC. This playcalling is atrocious. Idk how many times I’ve seen three men on routes against six and seven men in coverage. Not to mention their getting back their to Rattler with a three and four man rush. Everything about his mechanics screams NFL QB. There’s a reason why his numbers with Oklahoma under Lincoln Riley were so much better. If they stayed together he’d probably be a top 5 pick due to production and the media. Based on his South Carolina tape, he reminds me of Baker Mayfield, Russel Wilson, and Gardner Minshew.

Re: QB Spencer Rattler

I think that when you consider how 5th round picks are used as pocket change to trade up, using a 5th round pick to get a QB prospect to compete with Haener may not be bad. If whoever wins their competition comes out of it with a little value, where perhaps you would have taken them 10-20 picks earlier, it was worth the price, and its not the end of the world if we cut or trade the other. Putting all these guys in a competition makes them all better.

I'm just hoping Klint K can make the offense better.
Also thinking he may be the Saints future head coach .

I will say the more I read and watch the more I'm starting to like the pick.
Low risk, high reward so to speak.

I am okay with the pick, not in love with it. He has an arm. His accuracy and snap behind the passes is great. Decision-making skills will be the one part of his game I want to see.

I haven't watched enough of him to really know. What I did see I wasn't impressed. I know he didn't have much of a line. Just from past drafts I can't get excited about him. Everyone we draft falls flat on their face.

I would suggest reading up a bit on the kid and avoid generalizing. I'm assuming when you say "everyone we draft", you mean Quarterbacks.

Rattler has abilities none of our previous QB draft picks had or will ever have.

The Saints had a Snake once. I hope that Rattler becomes what Stabler was before he came to the Saints.

We actually had two “Snakes” before: Stabler and Jake. And we let the second one walk to the Carolina Kitty Cats and bring them to a SB in his first year there.

I don't recall Delhomme being called Snake but I'm not surprised that some called him that. Like Jake Plummer. If your name is Jake, your nickname is inevitably Snake.
Edit: I preferred Brooks over Delhomme. :D
Coaching makes a difference.

I believe it was during the Christmas Eve, 1999 game against Dallas. Public Address Announcer, Jerry Romig shouted "Jake The Snake Delhomme!!" After Delhomme scrambled free to hit Keith Poole with an 8-yard touchdown pass for a 10-0 lead after one quarter.

I grew up on a ranch in west Texas and we had rattlesnakes everywhere. Honestly, I don't mind a rattlesnake. They aren't eager to get into a fight and warn you when they think you are getting too close when they begin to shake their rattles. Unlike, a water moccasin. Those guys are just mean and will chase you for no reason other than looking for a fight.

We actually had a side job collecting rattlers and selling them by the pound. Simply get a squeeze bottle full of gasoline. Spray it deep in a rattlesnake den, light it and wait or then to come out. We had a long pole with a noose on one end and would collect them and put them in a tow sack while some with welding gloves held the tow sack. That was the scariest part. The snakes were sold for their meat, skins, and venom to make an anti venom for snake bites. I'm really surprise that I was never bitten. There were literally hundreds of opportunities almost every day. They even crawled up in your boots if you left them outside. The Texas slogan is don't tread on me.

Give me a rattler....preferably a diamond back. At least you now where they are and what they're thinking.

**** those things, they are terrifying. I work on a ranch in south Texas and they’re everywhere. They don’t always warn you either. Some of these guys say they are “evolving” to remain silent. Sounds like BS but I’ve walked right up on them and they just sat there. The first time one raised up and rattled it struck the fear of god in me. I had seen them in movies and thought the sound was exaggerated for dramatic effect. It’s not, it’s worse in person. My dog got bit and almost died. 12k later he is doing fine but when the necrosis set in I nearly lost my ****. I’m scared ****less of them and I’m not scared of anything out in the wild. I’ve caught alligators with my hands, hog tied wild pigs, faced two grizzly bears, a 225 inch whitetail buck in rut and a mugger. **** rattlesnakes.

Rattler is being promoted a lot by the Saints FO. He might hit the field a lot sooner than later.

I was watching an interview with Rattler and I have mixed feelings about him. Initially, I thought he was a punk with talent but he seems like a pretty sharp fellow when he answers reporters questions. Hopefully, he has matured with time and has learned how to be humble. I still am pulling for Haener though. I like his Moxy.

He had a bad rep from being in that Netflix thing as a highschooler. Lots of people still carry that perception of him, which is understandable if they havn't seen anything else about him since.

But in reality, he has been trough some very formative years where a lot of maturation and personal development takes place so it shouldn't be a surprise that he is "somebody else" nowadays.
