Question about the Saint's upcoming season

The post Brees/Payton era has been rough so far (not as rough as the Patriot's re-start thankfully for me). This season obviously will be key for the future direction of the organization. So I will ask a seemingly stupid question.

Are you pulling for the Saints to win the NFCS this season?

Simple as that...Yes or No without caveats. Wondering who besides myself and Guido will say Yes or even answer.

Sinner, I played poker last night with a bunch of Boston area guys while watching the Celtics game. Football came up. If you can't understand the value of being able to say "We beat you in your building two years in a row" and "We were 9-8 and you were 4-12" to a bunch of Pats (or Falcons, etc.) fans then you don't get how men interact with each other.

So you’re not going to answer the question? You’re just going to post some passive aggressive reply?

You do understand that you have literally made yourself into the same poster that you and many others despise? You’re the same, just the opposite.

Instead of saying 17-0 and constantly ignoring facts and logic, you relentlessly complain, shame other posters who have even a peep of hope, optimism or simply are excited to watch football.

The other guy acts as if the players and organization can do no wrong while trying to constantly convince others that he is correct in his assessment.

You act as if they can do no right and post non stop as if you’re trying to convince others that you’re correct in your assessment.

I used to enjoy your post but your relentless negativity and *****ing has put you on the same track as the other guy. You’re just traveling a different direction.

It’s all so you both can say “I told you so!” Wow.

If you're going to challenge posters masculinity here then let me call you out. You're on this site almost daily pissing and moaning like a child and starting arguments with everyone that doesn't agree with you.
How 'bout we all just state our opinions and have healthy, fruitful discussions about our favorite NFL team? This is a great site for learning and enjoying banter. Most of us are tired of the incessant bickering.

Boston… I get it. I really do. I still get to talk about the Super Bowl in 2010, as if it were just a few seasons ago. I still get to talk about the day Aaron Brooks took down “The Greatest Show on Turf”, almost like it was just yesterday. But much closer to yesterday, I was in L.A. on a Thursday Night, and we didn’t look anything like the Saints that I’d much rather we be. My Rams Fan Friends get to keep my a$$ In check… That’s just me.

See… that ^^^ to me is juvenile. And shortsighted. Regardless of what may have happened in the past, the Rams wiped the floor with us, fair and square on that ThursdayNight this past season, in a game that was a MUST WIN for us.

And to me your view is ignorant and stubborn to hold onto the belief that a factual event didn't happen.

Did I say that a factual event didn’t happen? What is factual is that they slapped us silly this past season. Fair and square.

It's factual that the Saints lost on the road to the Rams by one score last year. Does that mean you have stopped rooting for the team?

Rooting for my team and witnessing the facts are not mutually exclusive.

Studies have shown that when you cover your eyes but still peek through your fingers, what you pretend to IGNORE grows bigger and more prominent.

I'm kind of surprised that you didn't mention me....but I was critical of last years team. Although, I'm dubiously excited about this season. And (Drum roll please) the answer is "Oh, Hell Yes". :bng:

Some of us remember the pre-Brees/Payton era so we are conditioned. Also, there is a marked difference between wanting a team to win and passive-aggressively attacking fellow fans because they understand that desire does not affect reality.

See... Gen-x grew up without the internet which forced us to hone and reply on objectivity, deductive reasoning and critical thinking. This resulted in a generation that doesn't gulp down internet studies like baby birds waiting for momma to feed them.

That said. Here is a study on Optimism. :bng:

Re: Question about the Saint's upcoming season

Having been born in the 60s I remember the pre-breeze/Payton area very well myself. That is one of the things that makes me laugh when I hear people complain about how poor the state of the franchise is now. Even with 7-10 and 9-8 records over the last two seasons The franchise is in a much better spot than it was in the days with fans wearing bags over their heads.

That’s an interesting study you point out that has nothing to do with the conversation at hand. Just as I have clearly pointed out that I do not agree with Guido’s overly optimistic view of the franchise, I do not agree with other user’s obsessively pessimistic observations, and predictions. What’s more I don’t understand either side’s need to try to force others to agree with their point of view.

According to another optimism/Pessimism study:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3807005/

“Nonetheless, the empirical literature suggests that, in regard to one's general attitude, being in the middle of the optimism-pessimism continuum (i.e. practicing 'realism') is not necessarily the best. A moderate dose of optimism, although it distorts one's perception of reality to some extent, can be advantageous. Studies that investigated the correlation between optimism and health suggest that optimists generally have better physical health [317], less cardiovascular diseases [318] and improved immunological functioning [319]. Furthermore, optimists and their romantic partners indicated greater satisfaction in their relationships…”

Not sure that told the story you wanted it to.

So... Healthy due to the distorted reality which is summed up eloquently in the phrase 'ignorance being bliss'.

As far as for relationships (doesn't specify romantic), it seems to destroy them when coupled with narcissism and the general air that ones fairy tale is somehow due to some greater understanding when it reality it is simply the Dunning-Krueger effect.

So when people reference delusion they are actually correct.

You, like Quido in other posts, create all kinds of smoke and mirrors to deflect from the fact that the Saints Team Management and overall performance has been a disappointment. You may be able to distract yourself, but the smokescreen doesn’t translate to what has been clearly displayed on the field at game time, or on our TV screens. You make this personal, when it’s a “professional” matter.
