I read an article by Underhill stating that what he observed against Arizona represented very little of the offense the Saints have been practicing in camp.

It's conceivable that a team would run vanilla plays especially in game 1 of the preseason. Why show your hand and while using backup players?

Exactly. They were talking about that very subject on NFL Radio a few days ago. They were saying that given the vast majority of players used extensively in preseason games were going to be either deep backups or not even on the final roster, trying to run your schemes, offensive or defensive, is a waste of time. They said all teams feel it is best to keep things "vanilla" and simply use the games to evaluate the players' basic abilities, be they physical or mental. They said scheme work is most effectively realized in regular practice, classroom, or walk throughs.

It makes sense since there are almost zero instances in the preseason games where the entire defense or offense plays more than a handful of snaps as a group, if any at all. Why give anything away if it adds little to no value?

Derek Carr completed 2 of 6 passes for 12 yards, Alvin Kamara had two carries for three yards, which in your own words… is an evaluation of players’ basic abilities. So yeah.

Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS CARDINALS PRESEASON GAME

I think it was either drunk Hebert or maybe Ross J but they pointed out Isaiah Foskey played most of the second half & didn't register a single tackle. From my tv, he looks slightly bigger & is stiff as a board. The effort part seems to be lacking.

And I'll quote someone here ... "he is playing against fifth stringers" but I'll give him the benefit by saying 2's and 3's.

Isiah Foskey & Penning are BOTH looking like terrible HIGH draft selections. The Saints are in no position to miss on high picks.

Payton Turner stood out though.

Yeah, this offensive line has holes in it. Really hasn't improved in 3 years. Penning appears to not be able to handle the NFL. Praying some dudes step up to the plate and/or a miracle.

They had Ezirim taking reps at LT. Give him a shot a RT. That's what he played in college. Penning is just not good. Defenders get under his pads too easily. Terrible engagement and lean. No meanness or toughness. Young has played better than Penning. He's at least serviceable. Time to cut bait on Penning. Is what it is.

They very well might. If they do then next man up. If Penning is as horrible as some think then we must have at least three or four on the roster that should be an immediate upgrade, right?

Any chance the Saints make a bid for David Bakhtiari? I see he is still available and could be ready by beginning of season.

Isn't David a LT? If he is in fact serious about playing with an "MVP" QB as he states in the video, it's not gonna be in New Orleans.

David Bakhtiari is Persian for Michael Thomas.

Since 2020 Michael Thomas has played 22 of 69 possible regular season or playoff games.

Since 2020 David Bakhtiari has played 25 of 72 possible regular season or playoff games. All 3 seasons that the Packers made the playoffs during that stretch he was unavailable to play.

To me, the absolute worst signing a team could make is a player who possibly improves their regular season record but leaves them high and dry for the playoffs, so they get a worse draft pick but have no improvement in their actual competitiveness for a ring, and if anything have a WORSE chance because the backup who will play in January gets less reps.

Of course he now says he is finally healthy and the last 4 years were a fluke. But so does Michael Thomas. Yeah right. Vet minimum or please sign with the Falcons.

Michael Thomas. Talk about a guy that exploded on the scene then just completely disappeared. It’s insane to think about.

Football is a dangerous game. There's a reason why the average career length is only 3.3 years.

I don’t know what you were doing or watching while guys like Larry Csonka, Franco Harris, Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Marques Colston, (and I could go on and on) were playing the dangerous game, but Michael Thomas AINT that.

MT was hurt on a play that he probably shouldn't of been in for. You mentioned 6 players outta how many thousands during that time span.

Speaking of injuries, players are dropping like flies all across the league.

Atlanta's rookie RB was also carted off this morning in an air cast. Some teams, including Atlanta, have lost three or four players for the season already.

Can we get a RT if we trade them Carr?

Also we will except a dirty paper plate or an empty soda bottle. A 1/4 cup of pencil shavings is also acceptable.

Lol! That was terrible! He’s not that bad.

It was funny though. Bahahahaha!

So, aside from some obvious repetitive deficiencies, who stepped up on Offense, Defense, and Special Teams to make you say: I'd like him on my squad?

Robinson jumps out at me as a one of those guys, although Mims looked good too.

Orji was a tackling machine, but Rico looked decent in midrange pass cover.

I like Smyth but Gruppe is a lock at K. Mims and Robinson are deadlocked as KR. (Not that it matters with the new "Dynamic" return rules tho.)
