Re: Observations from Saints preseason loss to the 49ers

If Carr struggles to throw to open space and hit receivers in stride, and is throwing in a rush, I wonder how that will work out as we transition from our vanilla preseason offense where he looks ok but some notice these flaws to a more motion based offense that attacks the middle of the field. What happens to a receiver if you throw behind him, leading him into a defender, over the middle? And do we have the sort of big physical receivers and TE that SF executed this system with? Since we are not executing our new offense in preseason we wont really know if we can execute it until week 1 or later.

I'm not so optimistic there either...

I am. He's been getting raves from our defense, including Granderson and Young. The guy is going to be an absolute stud.

Carr tends to force it in sometimes ill advised, or he won't throw the WR open or in a manner that will allow the receiver to get lots of YAC. Haener did good in the first outing on a long ball, but missed a wide open throw a couple of times in game two. Rattler looked rattled in game 2.

This is the reality of the current Saints team.

Carr forcing it? Why doesn't it result in turnovers then? His interception rate (1.9%) for his career is tied for the 8th lowest in NFL history. He had the 3rd lowest interception rate (1.5%) in the league last year behind Stroud and Pickett. If anything I'd say he doesn't force it enough. Too conservative or careful at times.
