Saints Add Offensive Line Depth

Seven year veteran guard/tackle Chris Reed has started 30 games and played in 70. He spent his last two years with the Vikings.

I doubt this is the last move we'll be making.

Shane Lemieux played extensively at center during the preseason, I believe.

It's what we've got. Like it or not. You can't just pick offensive linemen off trees. There has been a dire shortage to begin with and half the teams in the league have already lost starters.

Re: Saints Add Offensive Line Depth

With ‘thin’ free agent market, Saints opt for internal replacement after McCoy lands on IR

From article above ...

By adding Lemieux to the 53-man roster, the Saints signaled they're willing to attempt to replace McCoy internally rather than bring someone off the street to play center.

Part of that rationale may be because of the lack of options available. New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis called the free agent market for offensive linemen "pretty thin" in a recent radio interview with WWL.

"There was a number of offensive line injuries, not just this last weekend, but in the prior two weekends," Loomis said. "That pool of players has been depleted."

-----------------------------------------------

This jives with what I have been hearing. In an already thin offensive line talent pool, the rash of injuries to OL's across the entire league has resulted in a historic shortage of quality replacements.

I just heard on NFL Radio that there are currently 92 offensive linemen that have either been placed on IR or injured and not expected to play in week four with IR still pending on several of them. That's an average of almost three offensive linemen for every franchise in the league out injured.

Just let that sink in.

Regardless of whatever is happening around the league, we need to beat Atlanta this week. No excuses.

^^^ This.

Philly found a way to get it done on the road without AJ Brown, Lane Johnson & Devonta Smith (late in the game) last week.

Saints need to do the same THIS WEEK vs Atlanta.

If Philly could come into our house and do that to us, you would THINK that we could go into Atlanta and take care of business. If we don’t, the NFC SOUTH and the rest of the season is going to get real funky.

The defense is going to have to continue to make plays.

Absolutely.
But we can't win games without scoring points. Klint and Co. need to get back on track! DA should remember that even tho they're not preferred scoring to TDs, FGs matter!

The defense will have to win the game against Atlanta. It will be tough to match the turnovers they had last week but we will need them to win. With our offensive line depleted we're going to have a tough time running the ball. I hope Kubiak has got something special in mind for Atlanta.
