Hopefully getting back some of those key players can change that. I'm sorry, but I don't see either Rattler or Haener ever putting up the kind of numbers Carr has in his career. I know some people are down on Carr, but he is still easily one of the 20-25 best professional QB's in the world today.

I think Carr is a good enough QB that he could potentially win with a great defense and good oline. I dont think we have either one of those. I trust the data from PFF to some degree and what I see is that Carr is better than anyone on our defense, by far. Our defense is made up of big names who have all lost their edge and at this point the only above average starter on the entire D is granderson. Lattimore, Davis, Jordan, Mathieu, Young, Bresee, etc are names but at this point they vary from completely average starters to major liabilities. We have our Trent Dilfer or Phil Simms or Brock Osweiler but the championship D is nostalgia not a reality, and spending $40-50 million on an aging B+ QB without the team around him is questionable. We would be better off to gamble on the next Darnold, Mayfield, Wilson, or a 25-26 draft rookie who might be better or worse than Carr but would definitely free up resources to get younger and deeper over time.
The other thing with Carr is even if he’s your best shot to make the playoffs, you are paying $40-50 million a year to get there with a QB who has never won a playoff game, only played in one, and basically will be more of a rookie in the playoffs than Rattler is in the regulr season. So sure, he’s your best option on the current roster if money is no object, but he is getting older, the team to win doesnt exist around him, and by the time you build it, you got the 40yo virgin in the big game.
