For what it's worth, I just saw on X that the Jets promptly claimed McGovern on waivers. I don't recall a time when OL depth has been this sparse league-wide.

I have mentioned this before as one major factor in this. I heard that big athletic guys are moving to the more glamorous positions on the defensive line in high school and college. That means that what's left is not as naturally gifted. Couple that with the near total lack of teaching fundamentals in college the quality of those that are available for the NFL is going to be subpar. I've also come to think that the extremely high injury rate of offensive linemen in recent years might have something to do with them being less athletic and lacking in technique.
