The Saints are actually the model for NFL teams' involvement with state and local government funding for stadiums and in return tax revenue back to the state and local government. We were the first to build this type of relationship between NFL owner and State and Local Governments. It keeps our Stadium state-of-the-art and the organization lucrative as well as funnels money back in taxes - travel and tourism fees and taxes - back to the local and state governments. It's a complex formula that the Saints, New Orleans, and Louisiana were able to solve, and probably one of the few places where it could happen as it was an experiment that became very successful. Technically the NFL would love the majority of their franchises to use the Louisiana/NFL model, but very few have caught on and some use only parts of our partnership aspects with their own team and government. As for team moving, people do not look at the whole picture. The Saints are one of the few orgs that make 100% of merchandise and concession sales at their stadium. Also, one of the few organizations where the stadium is constantly refurbished by the state government to sustain this private owner/state government relationship. Most other NFL teams are pitching in half and half on stadium renovations, and the government usually rejects that relationship. Many teams only get partial profits from conessions, etc. |
