NT Options on the current roster:

NT/DT John Ridgeway, 6'5" ~330lbs
- Needs to continue development, but he's on the roster and can at the very least be the backup to NT.

I like Deone Walker as a DE opposite Bresee in a 3-4.

LDE Walker/NT (Grant/Collins or Black)/RDE Bresee

The move by itself may not be exciting. However, the o line and lb can be addressed in FA. This is a very deep defensive draft at positions of need so if we took the most gifted "pass-catcher" of the draft, then why not?

That's clear. I just don't understand the reason.

Really?

Diva comes to mind right off the bat. A meddling father who has played the race card in years past?

I don't hate him, I just don't want him and all the drama that comes with him on the Saints.

Well, if he can become the next Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes I wouldn't care who daddy was. That said, I don't think we have a chance of moving up that high.

Full transparency here, as a fan of the Braves since back in the Milwaukee days I was always a fan of Neon Deion. Next to the Saints my favorite pro team is the baseball Braves.

Some people just want him to “shut up and dribble”. I’m all for everything he stands for, which is America’s nightmare.

Because 90% of professionals think he is avg at best. I saw someone say if this was last year he would have been the 6th or 7th QB taken. Last thing we need is to take a chance.

I don't him him or anyone. I do however think he is a project at best. I saw the other day if he was in last years draft he would have been the 6th or 7th pick. I don't like players because of their color or their last name. I want them because they will make the Saints better. I do however believe you interject race into everything. You had a Louis Farrakahn quote at the bottom of your posts. He spews nothing but hate. That is who you align yourself with. For the life of me I don't know how the mods allowed that for so long. Now you have another racist quote at the bottom. He was a head of one of the most racist gangs in America (black panther party).

Re: Turning Attention to the Draft

I think the best move is to spend the 1st round pick on a position that can make a big impact, have a long career, and is hard to find talent in the middle rounds. That means dline, OT, QB, CB, or perhaps WR or LB. To compete in this league you need to be able to find talent at RB, TE, OG/C, and S in later rounds. RB is notorious for short careers if they are highly productive, and is more a product of oline and system. TE is notorious for most of the best talents of the last decades coming from middle rounds, too unpredictable to spend a high 1st rounder. The Saints won in the past by finding guards in middle rounds and lost when drafting guards too early and getting mediocre players with entitlement in the trenches.

I know the Saints have missed a million picks on oline and dline. Maybe two million. That doesn't make those positions less important. Not drafting those positions in the 1st round won't make Penning and Payton all pros just because we are boy scouts and paid our dues with previous investments and deserve more. Nobody deserves anything, except that scouts who miss on too many picks in the trenches deserve to go apply at Dollar General and be replaced by new scouts to make the next picks.

The right pick this year is OT, dline, or QB, unless everyone is taken, then try to trade back if everyone is taken, and then fall back to CB, LB, or WR if you can't trade back.
