Re: Penning Trade to Patriots
Realistically I think the only way we would trade him is if he is secretly considered to have character issues inside the building. At this point I think we need to focus on drafting a guard more than a tackle because I believe McCoy is getting older and had a lot of injuries this year and if we keep playing musical chairs journeymen beside McCoy it will shorten McCoys career. But at the same time, it is possible that people inside the building do have a problem with McCoy. You never quite know which mediocre/struggling players a front office will become discouraged with in terms of conditioning, preparation, etc.

Top priority should be interior OL. There are some beefy boys playing in the CFB playoffs right now who I'd love to bring in and secure the middle.

Just wondering but has there ever been any talk about moving Penning inside? Not even sure if he’s ever played the guard position or not in college.

Didn't he improve at RT? He was serviceable ... Keep him, our OL is so poor we need all the bodies we can get our hands on. We played a bunch of nobodies at times during the year.

He improve from trash to below average/mediocre. That footwork is still atrocious to me, but I guess it don’t hurt to run it back.

Re: Penning Trade to Patriots
Even if he improved from a D+ to a C-, he's still serviceable. That plus we have ZERO cap space to go shopping and bringing in yet another project from the NCAA sets this team backwards even further. I'll keep Baby Hughey. Bad feet and all.

Re: Penning Trade to Patriots
I wouldn’t pass up on a Kelvin Banks, Jr., Will Campbell, or Josh Simmons simply because we made a mistake when we chose Penning. If we can come away with one of those Tackles and a Tate Ratledge or a Tyler Booker then we’re building for the future in the right way in my opinion. The only lineman I’d keep is Fuaga and McCoy. Everybody else can go.
