I don't think DA was worse than Haslett. I don't like either one a bit but I think DA was a slightly better coach with a worse roster. If you look at the Haslett years, Haslett was a defensive coach, Mike McCarthy was his offensive coordinator from 2000-2004, and the offense carried the team until McCarthy left in 2005. The only above average defensive year was 2000, and I think that was more about the players being highly motivated about NOT playing for Ditka anymore, and the sense of a fresh start, than anything about Haslett. Haslett, to me, was a random mediocre DC guy with bad habits just like DA whose greatest attributes were having a top offensive coordinator and not being Mike Ditka. I would credit Mike McCarthy much more than Jim Haslett with our first playoff win.

If anything DA annoyed me less than Haslett because as least DA was honest when we lost that they were not going to change anything and they were going to keep doing what they were doing. Haslett was always full of meaningless drivel about how they were going to change things they couldnt change (if the ball bounced different we would have won so we will work hope it bounces different and think about not fumbling) or that did not matter much and were distractions (this year we want to have a power running game so we had Deuce gain 15 pounds, no wait that was last year, now we had him lose 15 pounds and we are going to regain speed and win). Haslett was just always full of creative excuses and distractions that I felt destroyed accountability.

Also, I feel Haslett had a better chance to succeed with Aaron Brooks than DA did with Carr, but blew it worse. I feel it was more of Haslett and Loomis who decided to make Brooks into a pocket passer after giving him a big contract and that Brooks could been great if he was used more like Josh Allen. Brooks was developed to waste half his skill set and learn to make excuses, and thats what destroyed Brooks career.

Haslett failed because he refused to replace an ailing Aaron Brooks as the starting QB and replace him with Jake Delhomme, (Mark Bulger was drafted by the Saints in 2000 too.) Mike McCarthy coached both and had Delhomme "ready" to go. We all know what he accomplished in Carolina, he gave McCarthy credit in a 2008 interview prior to facing the Packers:

"I learned a ton from Mike," Delhomme said. "He was fantastic, an absolutely wonderful teacher. I had three years with him of the offseason and during the course of the season, and I really think Mike was tough on me in a way.

"Mike would always quiz me and stayed on me. I used to do a quarterback tip sheet for us and he had a high level of expectancy for it to be good and I didn't want to let him down. I'm really glad I was able to be with Mike. I think he's a fantastic coach and I think he helped me grow up a lot as a player."

In 2003 The Bulger led Rams went on to lose a double-overtime thriller to the eventual Delhomme led NFC Champion Carolina Panthers in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Saints add Scott Linehan to their staff! Another quality hire. Former HC, experienced, ties to Kellen.

Gotta say, I'm even more excited than I was!

Kellen Moore isn't finished bolstering his offensive staff, and he's going back to the well of familiarity. The New Orleans Saints have hired Scott Linehan, per NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill. Linehan brings over 30 years of professional and collegiate coaching experience.

Linehan's ties run deep, primarily with Kellen Moore. Linehan was the Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator when Detroit signed Moore as an undrafted free agent in 2012.

Linehan left Detroit and went to the Dallas Cowboys in 2014. It didn't take long before the Linehan-Moore duo was reunited. Moore joined the Cowboys as a backup quarterback in 2015 when Linehan became the offensive coordinator in Dallas.

After years of a coach-player relationship, it became a coach-assistant when Moore joined the Cowboys coaching staff. Ironically, it was just a year later that Moore took over for Linehan as the offensive coordinator.

Additionally, Linehan spent a year with LSU as the passing game coordinator in 2020. It wasn't long, but it does give him slight familiarity with the area.
