Re: Saints Hire Kellen Moore as Head Coach

I'm skeptical about the hire. I look at Moore as more of a designer than a leader. That works as a coordinator, but head coaching requires much more than that.

Release Derek Carr.

If he does that, we might as well induct Moore into the Saints HOF lol

Derek can't realistically/financially be cut until next year. Even if it's a June 1 cut. Let go of some aging veterans. Draft well and then cut Carr when we can afford to.

Yes he can.

Carr is the lowest IQ player on the roster who ended his own season with a bonehead play. He needs to be cut.

The question is what do the players see him as? We on the outside have no clue how he comes across to them in the locker room, on the practice field, in the meeting rooms, or on the sideline of games.

Successful QB's are leaders. He led Boise State to a record of 50-3 over his four-year starting career. That is a record, I believe. That had to take some leadership.

Cool, Bako! You have the IQ test results from all of our players? Care to share? That would be interesting.

I can respect that. But I have a hell of a lot more optimism with KM and a completely different staff than I would have with most of the other candidates or another year of DA.

I’m excited to see what the kid can do.

Re: Saints Hire Kellen Moore as Head Coach

We could put ourselves in a really weird situation of we hire Nussmeir as OC. We are definitely seen as a team that could be drafting a QB in the first round in 2026. Doug's son is a top QB in that draft but not the obvious top QB. Carr is old and banged up so we need a young option sooner or later but 2025 is not a good QB draft year. So what happens if we have to scout our OC's son and decide whether to pass on him or draft him higher than others would, and what if we have to decide whether he is worth trading up or risking trading back? Then what is we draft him and he is perceived as being treated differently. Or what if we draft him and he is a great QB but we have to fire his dad because of offensive coaching miscues. It would all be a very weird complicated situation. I know coaches have coached their sons before but I dont think there has been a situation quite like this where it could be with a high value first round QB and the high stakes of the top NFL draft picks.

I guess if Nuss is the best candidate we should hire him but I hope we dont get in this whole mess with having to figure out all those conflicts.

I'm okay with bringing Haslett's progeny onboard. Jim had his faults, but Dennis Allen has made him look like Tom Landry.

Very interesting article. I can see it happening but we won't be able to sign anyone but league minimum players in free agency. We're rolling with Rattler who had seven chances to win last year. Buckle up. It's going to be a roller coaster of a ride next year.

Whatever, it’s not like hiring a young, offensive minded assistant head coach has ever paid off.

I don't think DA was worse than Haslett. I don't like either one a bit but I think DA was a slightly better coach with a worse roster. If you look at the Haslett years, Haslett was a defensive coach, Mike McCarthy was his offensive coordinator from 2000-2004, and the offense carried the team until McCarthy left in 2005. The only above average defensive year was 2000, and I think that was more about the players being highly motivated about NOT playing for Ditka anymore, and the sense of a fresh start, than anything about Haslett. Haslett, to me, was a random mediocre DC guy with bad habits just like DA whose greatest attributes were having a top offensive coordinator and not being Mike Ditka. I would credit Mike McCarthy much more than Jim Haslett with our first playoff win.

https://www.pro-football-reference.c.../nor/index.htm

If anything DA annoyed me less than Haslett because as least DA was honest when we lost that they were not going to change anything and they were going to keep doing what they were doing. Haslett was always full of meaningless drivel about how they were going to change things they couldnt change (if the ball bounced different we would have won so we will work hope it bounces different and think about not fumbling) or that did not matter much and were distractions (this year we want to have a power running game so we had Deuce gain 15 pounds, no wait that was last year, now we had him lose 15 pounds and we are going to regain speed and win). Haslett was just always full of creative excuses and distractions that I felt destroyed accountability.

Also, I feel Haslett had a better chance to succeed with Aaron Brooks than DA did with Carr, but blew it worse. I feel it was more of Haslett and Loomis who decided to make Brooks into a pocket passer after giving him a big contract and that Brooks could been great if he was used more like Josh Allen. Brooks was developed to waste half his skill set and learn to make excuses, and thats what destroyed Brooks career.

Coaching staff is shaping up nicely. Now I wonder if that Sports Science guy will look into the medical and training staff and make sure that department is sailing in the right direction.
