Re: Saints finalizing deal with Kellen Moore
3. New Orleans Saints
Barring any unexpected developments, New Orleans is expected to hire Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as its new coach, league sources told ESPN. The new coach will inherit a team that has limited salary cap flexibility this offseason. The Saints enter the offseason roughly $60 million over the cap, and they can't get much relief from quarterback Derek Carr, who has $10 million guaranteed for 2025 with another $30 million scheduled to kick in March 15. Moving on from Carr would save them only a couple of million dollars, meaning he probably will be the team's QB1 entering 2025. But the team will have to find cap space and roster improvements elsewhere. Until it finalizes a coaching staff, no meaningful decisions can be made. The NFL world revolved around New Orleans during Super Bowl week, and there will be plenty of interest in the city this offseason. ESPN |

I am cautiously optimistic here. I think Moore has a good offensive mind and can bring some scoring back to the team.
Given the team's cap situation though, this will be a project. Gonna try not to be too hard on him year one. Best of luck Coach Moore! WHO DAT!! |

Prolly later today, the Saints officially announce it. He';s flying back down on Gayle's private jet. |
Re: Saints Hire Kellen Moore as Head Coach
The Eagles collapsed at the end of the 2023 season, especially on offense. Then they got whopped by the Bucs in playoffs right away. Talking heads said they needed to reload talent, but they brought in Kellen Moore.
In one season they were back in the playoffs and won a Super Bowl. Offense was unstoppable down the stretch. Play calling in the Playoffs and SuperBowl was awesome. Glad we waited and got our guy. |

Article mentions Christian Parker, Philly’s defensive backs coach and a longtime Vic Fangio protege, as a DC possibility.

Re: Saints Hire Kellen Moore as Head Coach
I thought Kellen did a nice job of calling plays in the Super Bowl in particular. He didn't get too cute with offense, but kept the playcalls fairly varied and unpredictable.
Here's hoping he gets the hang of things and build a culture like COTY Kevin O'Connell. He has that upside and hopefully Mickey lets him take the wheel. |

Plenty to like about Kellen and boy did we need to close the chapter(s) on Sean Payton...
Now the work begins. Staff, roster, free agency, draft, playbook, training camp. Gonna be a wild 6 months! |

Re: Saints Hire Kellen Moore as Head Coach
Is it an accident that in ESPN's main article on the hiring, Gayle makes the announcement and talks about a change in culture, Moore thanks Gayle, and nobody mentions Mickey Loomis? Maybe Loomis will be taking a step back.

Re: Saints Hire Kellen Moore as Head Coach
Also it is interesting to look at the article on the Saints own site:
https://www.neworleanssaints.com/new...ve-coordinator The quote from Gayle is 100% about Kellen Moore and why he is the right hire. "At the start of the interview process, it was important to find a head coach who was the right fit for the New Orleans Saints organization," said Owner Gayle Benson. "Through the search process, it became clear that Kellen is the right person to help us re-establish a winning program and culture that our fans are accustomed to and have come to expect. I would also like to thank Darren Rizzi for his service as interim coach and leading our team this past season. I am truly grateful to him." The quote from Loomis he welcomes Moore and his family (Loomis may not like Moore but he is polite about women and children), compliments some of his attributes but does not say he was the best candidate (Loomis would likely have preferred to retain DA), says he has a clear vision but not that its the right vision, and then compliments the other candidates equally. "I would like to welcome Kellen Moore and his family to New Orleans," said Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis. "He is an outstanding communicator with the ability to lead people and has a clear vision for this football team. Through this head coaching search, we had the opportunity to meet with several impressive candidates and I thank them for their hard work and preparation in this process." Then in Moore's quote he thanks Gayle by name but not Loomis, and also thanks his former team, lots of tanks but nothing specific to Loomis. "I am excited to join the New Orleans Saints and deeply appreciate the faith that Mrs. Benson and the entire Saints organization have placed in me," Moore said. "I look forward to embracing the challenges ahead and am eager to get started. I would also like to thank the Philadelphia Eagles for an incredible 2024 season. I'm excited to begin this new chapter." |
