No need to ban this play, thats a ridiculous idea.
It's up to opposing defences and their co-ordinators to come up with a way to stop it! Earn all those $$$ you are being paid! |

Unless it is causing significant injury, I see no reason to ban the play. It was the Packers who asked to have it eliminated.

Edit: The team was the Giants. "That rush play was the "tush push," which has been made famous by Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles. Giants head coach Brian Daboll confirmed Schmitz injured his shoulder and Bellinger sustained a knee injury on the failed attempt by quarterback Daniel Jones to gain a first down." The Chiefs' Chris Jones was also injured on the play in the Super Bowl. I'm not necessarily in favor of banning it, but those are some reasons being given. |

The most compelling reason I'ven seen to ban the play is the tweet that guy posted. Prior to 2005, you weren't allowed to push the runner. There were reasons that rule was on the books and we're seeing them now.

Re: What's a "Brotherly Shove" ?
Why not an unbrotherly safety?
Running backs get caught all the time behind the line and pushed back. Why not pick the guy up and pack him into his own end zone for a safety? I thought refs were supposed to blow a whistle once forward progress of the runner stopped. Nah, lets let 3 linemen squeeze the runner's carcass ahead two more yards. PS - I have a new idea for a new formation / play. Runner denoted with # O X # X X X X X X X X X |

Or maybe just get linemen to throw the ball carrier over the line of scrimmage.
