I get that we need 90 players for camp bodies but the problem is do we cut a player who have guaranteed money due to restructure or guaranteed contract and eat at least several million dead cap or cut players who cost recent draft assets?

Guaranteed money: Granderson, Young, Jordan, Godchaux, Shepherd, Saunders.

Cost recent draft picks: Breese, Godchaux (trade, also has guaranteed salary), Rideway (trade), Boyd.

Thats 9 players it would be hard to cut. Granderson and Young are the only ones clearly above average on PFF. I guess we could cut Rideway or Boy because they only cost late picks but it seems oike we should have let guys like Jordan, Shepherd, and Saunders compete in camp without guaranteeing their salaries through restructure advances and definitely not before the draft where we could find out if someone with more upside falls to us. In particular we seem to have a logjam at interior dline.

Seems like if we wanted to win we would need more linebacker depth but I am happy for Loomis to plan on Davis and Werner playing 17 amazing games each, because when that doesnt happen it will take its toll on his regime.
Agreed, this defense couldn’t tackle a pop warner RB, what did we do to improve that? Aside from the dude from the Pats, doesn’t seem like we improved too much.

Safety Justin Reid is a serious upgrade (Harris) at the safety position.

Strong in coverage and run support.

They need to bring in a rugby player to teach them how to tackle.

I think we'd benefit from the a switch to 3-4. It calls for better athletes on the EDGE and makes it easier to play Granderson, Young, Jordan, and Bresee at the same time. Cam is better suited as a 3-4 DE instead of an EDGE at this stage of his career and I think the change would benefit his current skillset.

Re: The 2025 JeanPierre Saints Roster Depth Chart Thread

I still think we are missing some serious speed on defense.

Teams gashed us on outside runs and we've effectively done nothing to upgrade that weakness.

Like it or not, Demario has been playing pretty badly for 2 and a half years now.

I don't know why they kept Werner instead of Kaden Elliss or Baun.

This defense is so old and they seem resistant to trying to reset it.

Well, he better be good in run support, he will have plenty of of opportunities to showcase his talent.

Honestly none of us know what will be needed once the final roster is in place. We still have more pre-draft free agency, the draft itself, and then post-draft free agency left. We also have a whole new staff of coaches and implementing what could very well be a radically different defensive scheme from what we have been seeing. Making judgements at this point is fairly meaningless.

As saintsfan1976 posted in another thread, "Relax y'all. See what happens before you condemn every decision."

Sound advice.
