I am skeptical that Moore is actually driving this. Before the hire Mickey Loomis stressed that the most important thing for the coaching hire was to be 'on the same page' as him. I feel like Moore's job is to say yes sir, absolutely sir, you sure are a genius Mr. Loomis sir.

Russel Wilson was 23 when drafted. Shough is 25 and will be 26 in September.

But as much as I am skeptical of this pick I do commend the team for not trading up, not trading future picks, and not drafting a reach, project, or injury prone player in the first round. Ultimately they took a shot in the 2nd round. Given the injury history and the lack of proven production due to the injury history, I doubt the pick works out, but at least its a cheap-ish shot with the size and athleticism that didnt cost a ton. Its not a worst case scenario. Probably he is Chris Weinke, but maybe there is a small shot he is Josh Allen, and taking that shot is not the worst thing we can do. Acting shocked if he does get injured down the line would be stupid though.

Shadeur Sanders has a similar number of attempts, more TDs, and less INTs at the D1 level. The same number of reps with more TDs and less INTs tells me Sanders is more pro ready. Shough is just big and old.

I am not sure a 26 year old rookie has ever had a successful NFL career? Is there precedent? Warren Moon was older but he played 4 years in the CFL first and won the grey cup every year. There have been a few great 6'1-ish QBs who didnt run. I can't find any successful QB who came out of college at 26. So not only does Shough have to turn from glass to steel, he then has to not be steel Chris Weinke or steel Brandon Weeden.

He played in a pro style system where he was asked to make reads and throws that no other QB in this class did. He has better size, speed and arm strength than Shedeur.

Again, I'm not ready to anoint him the starter or even say he'll ever be good, but I think that's true of every QB in this years draft. The whole league passed on Shedeur in the 1st. The browns, who are every but as QB desperate as us had 2 chances to take Shedeur, and yes, Shough too, and passed on both. The Saints obviously believe in the guy. Only time will tell if they're right

No way Moore takes this job to be a “yes” man. This wasn’t his only opportunity and Loomis is a numbers guy. He gave Payton and Allen personnel power.

Kurt Warner was 28 when he became starter coming from the NFL. I’m not really concerned about his age.

I apologize someone has pointed this out earlier. I haven’t read the entire thread. I just wanted to chime in. This is the only time in my memory besides Archie Manning that we drafted a quarterback in the first or second round.

I checked on this Archie Manning was our only 1st round QB pick. Dave Wilson was a supplemental 1st round pick, which is basically the same as 1st round pick, we gave up our 1st round pick the next year to be able to select him out of college a month or two after the draft. Steve Walsh was a recent supplemental 1st round pick we traded for. Tyler Shough is our first 2nd round QB pick.

Had the Saints not taken Wilson, they would have had the #3 overall pick in the 1982 draft and may have taken Jim McMahon, possibly resulting Mike Ditka either never winning a Super Bowl (if they took Todd Blackledge in 1983 instead, the top QB available at their 1st round pick that year) or winning many Super Bowls (if they took Jim Kelly in 1983, the next QB after Blackledge) and either way, Ditka never coming to the Saints either due to not being successful enough in Chicago or being too successful.

If you look at the Saints 1st round draft history, it is clear that two positions the organization values equally are Quarterback and Punter.

The greatest player to ever wear a Saints jersey..hell, one of the greatest to wear any jersey..came to us a year after suffering a near catastrophic injury and went on to a hall of fame career. Would I prefer he had no injury history? Sure. But he's still the most pro ready QB in this class. I'm not even out here trying to say he's going to be any good, but to knock him for his past injuries is silly.

Everything is a big deal to Bako as long as he can use it to put blame on Loomis.

And everything is a smart move to Guido and Loomis as long as they can use it to blame losses on injuries forever.
