He said you have to be a "real grown man" to play in the NFL and Shough is a real grown man. He praised every aspect of his game and gave the indication that he is the most ready to play QB in the draft, an opinion that I have heard more than once elsewhere. He added that the coaching he got from Louisville's Jeff and Brian Brohm was top notch. Chris' father, Phil, is from Kentucky and the Simms family are apparently close friends with the Brohms so they know the scoop. He also said that Kellen Moore will be a perfect fit for Shough.

Familiarity also incorporates nepotism. I'm excited to see what Shough can do at QB but I'm keeping my expectations in check.

Our recipe for success seems to involve placing an injury-prone, average quarterback—who struggles under pressure and is hesitant to take hits—behind a terrible offensive line. This approach has worked so well over the past two years; it would be stupid not invest our early second-round pick in a younger version.

Why not? So far he's got the highest ceiling in my opinion.

Injury prone? A broken clavicle, once repaired has never been an issue again, and a broken ankle that was the result of a hip drop tackle which would result in the same damage to any other player in the game given the same illegal play. That's it in his entire career thus far. How is that "injury prone"?

Report details why Saints 'embraced' QB Tyler Shough before, during NFL Draft
Quote:

Previous reports suggested that Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough could be selected during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, even though he suffered serious injuries each college season from 2021 through 2023 and turns 26 years old this coming September.

After the New Orleans Saints grabbed Shough in the second round with overall pick No. 40, ESPN's Katherine Terrell touched upon why first-year head coach Kellen Moore wanted to choose the young signal-caller who could be New Orleans' 2025 Week 1 starter.

"The Saints didn't just ignore those issues -- they actually embraced them," Terrell said about Shough's unique resume. "Shough's maturity appealed to a team in transition, pairing him with Moore, who is the youngest current NFL coach at 36. As quarterback Derek Carr deals with a shoulder injury of unknown severity, Shough said his only goal for now is to compete and help the team in any way he can."

Looks like Riddick is as high on him as I am. I think he's the best passer in the draft.

Kellen Moore didn't draft him and was willing to spend the highest draft pick on a QB since Archie Manning. I suspect it's Shough's job to lose. They're not going to want to admit being wrong on this one. Plus Shough is 6'5" and Rattler is probably hovering around 6'1". It's politics involved.

Kellen Moore had plenty of time to evaluate Rattler.

Doubt he'd spend a high pick on a QB who he doesn't view as a better player.

I see Haener as the odd man out while Rattler and Shough battle it out in camp.

I'm positive he believes Shough is the better player. I wouldn't necessarily agree, but I definitely feel like he believes that. That's why I doubt Rattler gets a real chance. He has to go absolutely bonkers in camp and during the preseason.

The Saints offensive coaching staff is full of ex-Quarterbacks, including the Head Coach. I feel pretty confident they know what to look for in a QB. I also know that Moore is going to play the best guy at that position regardless of draft picks.

To not admit wrong and bork your season because of that just doesn't make sense.

3 ex-high-caliber-quarterbacks, I think. There's 5 inch different between the Bayou Rattler and Shuck-man. We'll see in the camps who wins. KM is likely hedging talent at the QB position. With the CarrFax situation being a total disaster... they don't even know when/if the injury occurred. He could have injured it moving to Fresno... nobody knows. We only know CarrFax is an embarrassment to himself and now the Saints. I look forward to the camps.

Loomis fought hard to admit he was wrong about Dennis Allen and Derek Carr so it's not as though it's out of the ordinary behavior.

I for one would like to see Shough get the job, but we must be prepared for something that will piss off many. Carr may very well be still in the picture as a starter. Moore is going to want the player that gives him the best shot to win this year.

Just throwing this out there until, or if, it is no longer an option.

Not so sure... I saw him downing his favorite drink or two at his bar on Metairie road. We likely won't really know until later.

Well, both Shough and Rattler are going to have to learn the offense, so it's equal footing there. It could end up being a good competition. If Carr is no longer a factor, which is looking increasingly likely, it may come down to who picks the system up quicker. Hopefully, it's not a case of who looks less awful.

He didn't go to Chiptole for his first NOLA meal. This is an instant upgrade over CarrFax.

I hope you're right, but I don't see it. First step is for him to stay healthy, which is tough to be positive about when he has had two season ending injuries in college, along with missing games due to injury in other seasons.

That’s too cool he actually reached out to Morstead. I personally think the only QB off limits number is obviously #9.

Other than that. Take your pick.

Shough has amazing arm strength, but he has some serious movement flaws that will need to be fixed. Undoubtedly they can and will do that. You would want him to start 5 to 8 games into the season, not day 1. My opinion. Let the man adjust. He has an opportunity to be great, but he needs some work. I'd ease him in so not to ruin him

Kurt's videos, while interesting and insightful, fail to show as a matter of perspective his own shortcomings when he made a breakthrough from grocery store bag boy to playing QB in the NFL. Methinks if he were to add a sprinkle of that kind of perspective, it could prove to show more parallels than he would imagine, or admit to, when it comes to the analysis of Tyler Shough. We'll have to wait and see obviously as the camps unfold.
