I say pick Sanders in the 4th round and trade Shough. Crazier things have happened.

And I pray this comment ages poorly.

"We just felt like it was a really good player," Moore said when asked what the selection of Shough means for Carr's future. "Obviously we felt good about Tyler through this process and I don't think there's anything wrong with ever investing in the quarterback room. We feel like there's a lot of depth in there now as we go through this process and let's let it play out."
Quote:

"In a perfect scenario, I play 10, 12 years and I'm still mid-30s, and I think any team would ask for that," Shough said. "Coming into this situation, I've already seen what can happen in the NFL.

"I've already gone through those challenges in college, so I feel much more prepared now to come in and just play free and have fun and do everything I can to make the team better. ... I think when you're a younger guy at 21, 22, you ... don't know what you don't know, and there's some growing pains, and the support system around me with my wife and my family, I just feel a lot more equipped to come in and handle it."

I don’t have an issue with his age. I’m sure he’s more mature and responsible than many other athletes younger than he is. I don’t have a problem with the pick. It’s just where they picked him. Probably could’ve been had in the 3rd round.

A high 2nd round pick is a serious investment considering all the quality starters at various positions we passed on. He's going to need to build on the Louisville success and be our late-bloomer story ala Kurt Warner or Nick Foles, or our Carr/post-Carr QB follies will only continue.

So, a Lotta folks are saying we could have gotten him later, maybe that's true, but maybe not. I'll admit, I knew very little about him until a couple weeks ago. What I've learned since then is that some teams had him rated as their #1 QB on the board, ahead of Cam Ward. There was talk that he might go late 1st, and when the Giants traded back into the 1st to take Dart, I thought there was a chance that the Saints might try to do the same for Shough. I'm glad that they didn't. I think they've done a good job of being disciplined this draft and letting the board come to them, even if I don't fully agree with every pick. I don't know if Shough will ever turn out to be a good QB. He has warts like every other QB this year. But they obviously think he's got potential, and I seriously doubt that he would've still been there for them in round 3. I get that there were guys at other positions who might have had a better chance at starting, but we all know how desperate the QB situation is for this team, and waiting till later in the draft to take a flyer on some guy who would need a miracle to develop into a starter is pointless. They've got multiples of that guy on the team already. The whole thing is a crap shoot. Getting Foskey in round 2 a couple years ago felt like a steal, there's a good chance he doesn't even make the team this year. I look at the Shough pick like this, I'm glad there was a guy there who they had a strong enough belief in to take with an early 2nd round pick. I'm glad that it didn't cost multiple picks to get him. If he works out, great. If not, you're probably picking high again next year and you take another shot. I say invest as many picks as you have to into finding yourself a good QB. I think the days of a great defense being able to carry a Trent Dilfer across the finish line are gone. You need a stud QB, and until you get one you're only ever going to be an also ran.

The Saints has 5 accomplished former QBs on staff.

I'm willing to wait and see how this plays out.

The kid looks pretty damned good on tape...

We're never gonna be free of him on our backs until someone takes him. The Saints could have had him in round 2 if they wanted him. But they didn't. They are not trading a guy they did homework on.

Not worried about the injuries at all. Collar bone break which was not repaired via surgery initially. The following year it was repaired surgically and has not been any issue since. The only other injury came as a broken ankle on a hip drop tackle. There's no way anyone can prevent that and it is now illegal. That's it. He played every snap last season.

As for age, two medical redshirt years and the COVID year. If he gives us even ten years he only 35, still in the prime for QB's these days. He could very well be the day one starter. Many QB's don't get the chance to start until they are at his age or older.

If they were committed to getting a QB and he was the one they definitely wanted there's no guarantee he'd be there in the 3rd round. Probably doesn't cut it in that case. I had heard talk on NFL Radio that he was graded top three QB by some and 2nd round by many.

Just sayin'.

How quickly forgotten: Former BYU QB Taysom Hill went undrafted in 2017, but he entered the NFL just a few months shy of his 27th birthday

The Pro Football Hall of Fame unveiled a new display this week that will likely be of interest to BYU football fans.

The display features the jersey, wristband and shoes worn by former BYU quarterback Taysom Hill when he made NFL history earlier this month.

During a Nov. 5 game between Hill’s current team, the New Orleans Saints, and the Chicago Bears, Hill scored the 10th receiving touchdown of his career. In doing so, he became one of only two NFL players to have at least 10 receiving touchdowns, 10 passing touchdowns and 25 rushing touchdowns during his time in the league.

He won't be handed the job, obviously, but methinks the Bayou Rattler with the guidance of this new coaching staff will absorb just as much as Tyler Shough will, thereby making this an interesting QB battle for the starting gig. I still think Rattler has a stronger Brett Favre like arm which at times makes a tremendous difference. As Kurt Warner pointed out in the previous video up above, if Tyler can clean up some technique he could be just fine at the next level. I look forward to see what KM and the rest of the very experienced former QBs as coaches will do to coach them up.

I dig it. Who cares that he is 25. Let’s say he sits year one and then starts and he is our guy until 40.

That’s 14 years folks.

I’m pretty sure you guys noticed he wore #9. Maybe a sign. Fingers crossed 🤞

But I hope he knows it’s off limits.

Bayou Rattler is merely one year younger ... FWIW

Arch Manning
Lanorris Sellers
Cade Klubnik
Garrett Nussmeier

I have a feeling they'll be picking one of them in the 1st round next year. Watch the games this season. Especially Nuss with his dad being here.

It'll be interesting if Arch decides to only play one year.

If the gamble on a QB in this sucky year for a QB does not pan out, you'll be right. However, it won't cripple a franchise.

We weren't expected to win this year anyway.

If we find ourselves in the top 10 again, then it's nice to know there are high quality QB options in the 26 Draft.

And at least we'll have a very capable backup in Shough.

The problem isn’t that being 25 will make him turn 40 earlier. The problem is that being 25 probably made him look better than he is playing against 20 year old kids. You dont neccessarily have to subtract years from his career to equalize value, you have to look at what Rattler accomplished in college before leaving for the draft at 23yo or what Shedeur Sanders accomplished in his last season of college at 22yo and compare to what Shough produced in college by age 22-23 which is basically nothing but injuries and 1:1 td:int ratio. Any mildly ok qb will eventually have a good college season if they keep getting closer to their late 20’s prime than their rivals and wait for one perfect year, but at some point you have to buy the normalized trend not the peak.

Re: With the 40th pick in the Draft, the Saints select: Louisville QB Tyler Shough ⚜️

Chris Simms was co-hosting Airing It Out on NFL Radio with Bob Papa this morning and he was most excited about Tyler Shough amongst all QB's. He said his age is not a negative at all. He said you have to be a "real grown man" to play in the NFL and Shough is a real grown man. He praised every aspect of his game and gave the indication that he is the most ready to play QB in the draft, an opinion that I have heard more than once elsewhere. He added that the coaching he got from Louisville's Jeff and Brian Brohm was top notch. Chris' father, Phil, is from Kentucky and the Simms family are apparently close friends with the Brohms so they know the scoop. He also said that Kellen Moore will be a perfect fit for Shough.
