That used to be the rule, but some years ago they began allowing pushing while still supposedly banning pulling or carrying. We are seeing plays down field where player catches the ball and teammates converge on the player and opponents and push the scrum downfield when it appears the play should have been called dead. They commonly pick up an additional five, six, seven yards or more with little or no effort from the ball carrier at all. I've seen the ball carrier feet off the ground as the scrum moves forward.

The same with the Tush Push as it does not resemble a football play. It's little more than just a rugby scrum. I can see why the Saints didn't vote for the ban with Kellen Moore now in house. Shough has the size to pull it off. Rattler may be too undersized, however.

Agreed. We should go back to the previous ruleset where the push was banned. There was no good reason to revise the rule, and now we're seeing the adverse results. Football is about tackling and blocking, and the pushing hurts the spirit of the game.

I'm also disappointed that the Lions chickened out and didn't push harder for the seeding change. Division winners are already awarded by a guaranteed playoff berth. Let the winning percentage dictate the seeding as it's more logical.

I heard there was little to no support for their seeding proposal. Someone today mentioned that it changed you might as well stop rewarding Division Champion banners to be hung and replace them with Seeding banners instead.

NFC #4 Seed waving proudly from the rafters. :D

This alignment could turn out to be very good.

My optimism is back at all time highs.

I know the roster has holes

I know we're likely to lose double digit games.

But guess what - I don't care!

I couldn't be more excited by this new chapter in New Orleans Saints football.

Listening to Kellen gives me the sense he is in full control of the team's direction and is the right man to turn things around.

This team has energy, youth and talent to get it done.

LFG!!!!

Bump on Trevor Penning ….

He’s running out of lives. This is his final audition on that oline.
He will either sink or swim at G. Saints didn’t pick up his 5th year option and they drafted Banks with the first selection in this years draft.

TP will need to get lower & have better leverage at the G position. I don’t see this as an easy transition.

Coach Nugent & Jahri Evans - X factors here.

We'll see, but decent feedback so far at G .

Since the beginning Penning's strength has been run blocking, right? The guard position may be more inline with that strength.

We shall see. I'm no o line coach but I have my doubts.

I'm glad they are trying out Penning now at LG to find out sooner rather than later if he can be effective at guard. I have my doubts.

I don't agree with this narrative that moving a tackle to a guard is a simple way to minimize pass blocking weaknesses. Pass blocking in the interior is also tough. Pass protecting at guard requires a lot of teamwork and recognition of stunts and a-gap blitzes. Guard is far from easy and at times more difficult than tackle.

I think Crusader is. I'd like to hear his input.

He was always a Guard. Just look at that face.

Penning has issues with footwork and dealing with quickness so hopefully the change does him good. He'll also have some help on both sides of him now with Banks and McCoy. I'm optimistic for about him for now.

Said the same earlier. Sandwiched between two *pro bowlers, he should have a solid career.
