The rebuild we wanted is here
The coaching changes we lobbied for have happened
The draft we needed most likely just happened
The cap room we hoped for is favorable for the first time in over a decade

IMO, the reasons for optimism far outweigh the perceived negatives from 2 preseason games.

I agree with everything you said. I'm not expecting great things from the team this year. What I'm really hoping to see is our young players getting better. This rebuild will probably take a couple years and I hope Moore is given enought time.

It's beginning to look like a great rookie class. Bad drafts have killed this team recently. I hope we got some new blood in the draft to infuse this roster with some semblance of depth.

Right now I believe that the only way Rattler gets the starting nod would be if he dramatically outperformed Shough this offseason. I don't think any of us saw that result. The Saints spent substantial capital on a QB that is more prototypical in size and potentially more naturally mature given the age difference. Neither QB is expected to lead us to the promised land this coming season, but it appears the Saint pushed their chips in the middle when they took Tyler with the 40th pick in the draft. I suspect they let the hand play its way out having nothing to really lose at this point.

I'm not perturbed by preseason. The success of this team will be based on the ability or inability of the starters to stay on the field. Depth isn't a strength of this roster, and we've been watching back ups play with an occasional starter here and there. No Justin Reid, Demario Davis, Chase Young, Carl Granderson, Davon Godchaux, Julian Blackmon, etc. And we already know we need ALL hands on deck offensively for that to work. We won't get a decent read on this team until week 1.

Can we say week 3 instead? Just because we all saw the first two weeks of 2024....

I think we had a decent read after week one last season. That read was what was possible with a fully healthy offensive line in place. We got a new read after week 3 with both Ruiz and McCoy going down and missing Taysom and Saunders. That list grew every week and included Carr. What a disappointing season.
