Re: Saints Hire Thomas Dimitroff as Consultant

I hate this move. This guy is the architect of a lost decade in Falcons history. His first major move as a GM was drafting Matt Ryan, a mediocre QB. He then proceeded to completely give up on the defense and mortgage the future with blockbuster trades and offensive signings to make his mediocre acquisition look like a franchise QB by surrounding him with talent like Michael Turner, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez, Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, etc. Meanwhile the defense struggled and he made a string of uninspiring head coaching hires. Essentially the Falcons plan was to draft a mediocre QB who clearly couldn't win the big games, then throw all their financial and draft resources at offensive weapons to make their fake golden boy QB look like the real deal, then hire uninspired defensive or run-oriented coordinators for head coach to pretend they cared about the defense when really they didn't want to put money or picks into the defense because it would reveal the limitations of their QB. The first thing another GM did when they came to Atlanta was trade away Jones and Ryan.

What has made the Patriots and Chiefs successful is that they have asked their star QB to do enough on his own to prove he is worth the money and leave some picks and free agent money for the defense. The other thing they have done is give their head coach some talent to work with in that coaches area of expertise, a QB and TE for Reid, some defensive stars for Belichick, rather than asking their star players to function without a head coach who can understand their side of the ball and their head coach to function without star players on the side of the ball they can understand. Dimitroff's Atlanta teams were constructed in exactly the opposite way, they spent all their money on a high flying passing offense but never brought in a coach for that roster, they built a wanna-be Sean Payton roster with a series of wanna be Belichick-Ditka-Parcells type coaches that were a total mismatch. They put Michael Phelps on a horse and ran the Kentucky Derby.

I don't get why an actual competent former former GM like Jerry Reese can't get another phone call with 2 super bowls, but Gregg William's brother from another mother here is getting is getting a check from Mickey's clubhouse gang.

The New Orleans Saints record over the last four seasons is 33-32.

Last playoff appearance was in 2020.

This team needs all the extra eyeball and evaluators of talent it can get.

Thomas Dimitroff has drafted some good NFL players too.

Change is good.

This is a head scratcher. Dimitroff put some solid teams together in Atlanta so it might be a good thing. The Saints have a lot of "GM's" in the building with Dimitroff, Ireland, Mueller, and Loomis. I suppose that's a good thing.
If Bako gets his wish, this is a move that will allow Loomis to move on to the Pelicans strictly or into retirement.

I don't believe that Loomis is involved with the Pelicans at all anymore. He's strictly associated with the Saints alone.

Say what you will but Dimitroff was instrumental in turning the Falcons franchise around quickly and for a sustained number of years with multiple playoff appearances and one Superbowl.

All we've done since SP left is crater into oblivion.

Oddly enough, Dimitroff has the same downside as Loomis - holding on to ageing vets and drafting terribly on defense.

Wait a minute. Before we cratered into oblivion, things happen.

FIRST we hired Dennis Allen as Head Coach...THEN we cratered into oblivion!
Had to clarify

Why do we need so many consultants and assistant GM's? Is Mickey trying to find his successor?
